Can a 4 day wait from the last BD give incorrect SA results?

So we decided that DH will get a SA done, since its non-invasive, and the results are available quite quickly.

We were told to wait 3 days since last BD to do the sample. 3 days is today. So off he went this morning, only to hear that the sample needs to be sent in beofre 9am...and that he'd need to come back tomorrow.

So that will be 4 days.

Do you think this could give us incorrect results?

I've heard that if the sample is taken from a man who hasnt DTD for a long time then the sperm can show decreased motility.

We cant wait another 4 days from today, as we predict the big O around then....

I wouldn't think one day would make a huge difference, but that's just my opinion. I can definitely see how you're feeling, I know I'd be worried about it. If it were me I would probably wait until next cycle since I'd want to BD as much as possible for upcoming O.

Or you could do the sample and if it shows anything to be concerned about submit a new sample after O.

Good Luck!

It might make a little difference but I'd still get the test done. Every doctor will tell you something different. Ours says it's best to wait 2 days, but what we have found with all our treatments is that when we wait any longer than 1 day, DH's numbers go down. I think every guy is different and it can even depend on the day and of course what was going on in his day about 90 days ago!

I think this is what we're going to do.
Hopefully there's no issue, and the little swimmers are just fine...then we can BD everyday without worrying about a schedule!

When DH had his first done, they said 4 days was optimal, actually. Goes to show that every doc will tell you something different. I would just get it done, and if you feel the need, do it again another cycle!

My doc said for the very first sa, they don't want you to do anything different at all. Don't worry about when you did or didn't bd last and just do the sample and then adjust things for future ones if there is an issue to pinpoint problems.

Oh I forgot to mention, our first SA they didn't tell us anything about how long our last BD should have been. So it was like 7 days and they were like oh, maybe that was the reason the numbers were low. Next time we did the 2 days like they told us and his numbers got worse! They went from fair to poor! So, just goes to show that what's ideal for them isn't always for us And his samples have been anywhere from 4 million to 20 million to 60 million, so what happens at one sample may be completely different than the next sample!

My DH just had his first SA last week. They didn't tell him anything about not BDing, just told him to come to the lab whenever in the morning and give a sample. I had heard somewhere that guys should have at least 24 hours between emissions, so we BDed on a Friday morning and then didn't until after his SA on the following Tuesday. He has a dr's appointment this Friday, so hopefully we'll get some more answers!
