So... I was fully prepared to see a temp shift this morning. I continued to get positive OPK's through last night at 9PM, had cramping on the right side, lots of wet CM, and during sex I was extremely sensitive (TMI?)

When I temped this morning my temp was 96.93 (yesterday was 96.63)... I temped again immediately after and it was 97.18 then I temped vaginally and it was 97.33

Why would the two oral temps done back to back be so different? Should I use the vaginal temp? I don't know if I should since I've been temping orally up to this point.

I have no idea if this indicates O or which # to record. My temps from the weekend are screwed up because I stayed up until 4AM sunday morning so I didn't temp until like 9 AM - normally I temp at 445 AM. I figured the temp from sunday I should just discard. Friday night I drank a little so maybe saturdays temp shouldnt count either.

I know it takes a few cycles to master this, but please help. It's not the end of the world If I didn't O because it would have been early in my cycle anyway - I'm just confused!

Thanks in advance!!

I would use your very first temp. I've temped really close together before as well and got a variation like that. And I always go with the first one.

If you got a +OPK as late at 9pm yesterday, then you're probably O'ing today or perhaps O'd early this morning or overnight. And not enough time has passed for the temp spike to register.

My guess is that your temp spike will appear tomorrow.

I would use the first temp, def NOT the vaginal temp as that would give you something very different than your oral temps. I'm guessing if you got a + OPK last night you'll see another temp spike tomorrow

I would use the very first oral temp a well. If you use the vaginal temp after using oral temps the whole cycle, it will make your chart all funky. Sometimes it takes an extra day for your temp to really spike up there.

Agreed with the other ladies. I didn't get a +OPK this cycle, but if you look at my chart, I got an almost positive one on Wednesday (CD 13). I think I would have had a positive one if I'd tested later that same night. You'll see that I had a bit of a temp jump on CD 14 (and FF originally gave me the crosshairs for that day), but then a real temp spike on CD 15 so FF adjusted my crosshairs.

I also agree with don't change your method mid-cycle. Go with the first temp (unless you have a thermometer malfunction).

Good luck!

Ditto everyone...use the first temp. I've done that before (temping 2x back to back) and also had variation like that. Stick with the first!

I agree with everybody else, vaginal temps are always higher than oral temps. Also I would discard your Saturday and Sunday temps because alcohol can definitely increase your temp the next day the other one was taken so much later than normal. Without those 2 in there it will show the temp shift much better I think.

Just my 2 cents worth:

1. I think you should take the first temp (as its your waking temp)
2. I would also stay uniform with the oral temp (you could change next cycle, but hoping there wont be a next cycle! )
3. According to the book 'taking charge'...there is a scenario where the thermal shift occurs some time after actual O (apparently in some cases the body takes a while to respond to the postovulatory progesterone)

If you want to check that last point, in my book, the revised edition, its on page 315 (appendix A)

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I was wondering about discarding my Sat. temp and I think I definitley will... I had enough alch to make a difference for sure. Definitely another reason to cut back! Now that I'm invested I don't want to see messy temps!

Great advice I have this book in my cart on Amazon. I will be DLing if (hopefully not) this cycle doesnt result in a BFP!

** I'm super excited ladies because I just took an OPK and it is clearly negative! I was beginning to get worried because my surge was like 24 hours of almost positive OPKs. But I think it's safe to say that I did ovulate and hopefully my calendar will reflect that in the next few days. If not, I'm having sex excessively anyway!

Thanks again for all the feedback....it helps so much you don't even know! Love you girls

I know what you mean about drinking and temping. It's so freaking annoying to have to weigh where I am in my cycle and whether I'm willing to get a bad temp when deciding what to do on a Friday night!
