We're only on our first cycle of TTC and I was just wondering is it really necessary to lay around after DTD or can I use the bathroom? I know there's a lot of sperm trying to do their job but am I really hurting my chances by getting up when it's over?

I personally don't think you have to and most doctors will probably say its not necessary but I do it lol.

I think there are varying views on this. I personally do it...gives me an excuse to lay in bed a little longer

It definitely couldn't hurt, so I always stay laying down as long as I can (at least 20 minutes). But there are a lot of people who are susceptible to UTI's if they don't use the toilet right away afterwards, and they still manage to get their BFP's! Best of luck to you!

I lay down for like 20 minutes if possible then run to the bathroom.

Def dif opinions from the docs out there! I lay around for about 20 mins as well then have to go to the bathroom. For 2 reasons, if we're going to bed after then it gets messy and runs down my leg and keeps me up and in the am, the smell just grosses me out!

I read somewhere that after 10-15 minutes the swimmers either got somewhere safe or are pretty much dead so I usually stay laying down for about 15-20 minutes.

I have read the same as what wizza posted and my doc said that it takes about 20 minutes for semen to typically complete the liquification process. I asked my doc after the SA because it said time to liquify or something like that on it. That is part of where the lay down for 20 minutes or whatever comes from.

Yeah, I try to lay still for a bit, too, but I really doubt it's necessary. I just have this irrational fear that I'm losing all the swimmers when it comes out!

i try and lay about for 20-30 minutes but it is sometimes just as excuse to rest for a while , i do however hate the messyness afterwards and it too keeps me awake if i dont clean up before trying to sleep!

I lay down for about 20 minutes afterward for the same reasons about giving the swimmers time to get in and after that amount of time all of the swimmers that were going to get in are in. I notice a difference in the amount that leaks out of me if I get up right away, so I personally feel it's necessary, but the doctors are split on this.
