As you all know, we had a close friend picked out as a donor and decided against it because we were afraid of too much involvement from him. Well, him and I had a long talk last night about it. He does want to be known as the baby's father but understands that BOTH terra and I are the mothers and the baby will live with us and he will get to see the child as we see fit. Terra is all for this because she is adopted and doesn't know who her biological parents are and there will always be an emptiness for her because of this. Also, the baby will need a male figure in his or her life. I don't speak to my family so the baby will have another side of the family to go and see at Christmas and such. We have all talked in depth about this and feel like this is the route we want to go. So... No worrying about the money for donor sperm, no worrying about Oing in the timeframe I can keep the tank. And... No waiting until next cycle. Yay!!!

woohoo! I'm glad it's going to work out! Are you going to get something notarized with all this in it just in case?

We are going to get a paper notarized stating that if something were to happen to me, terra would be the baby's mother. As in she would have full custody of the baby. I want him to see the child so I don't want to have any legal limitations.

Wow Kara this is fantastic! And you know, when you put it that way, will be nice for the baby to know his/her father, yet you know the baby will be yours and Terra's. But to have the role model there and to be able to have all those questions answered will be fantastic for you guys I think! And how great of a heart he has for him to step up and be willing to do this for you and with you!!! He sounds amazing and I think a great pick for a father!
And how awesome for not having to worry about money!
Do you watch Grey's Anatomy? If so, this is so Callie, Arizona and Sloan!

Kara, I was just thinking of a notarized form stating that he's relinquishing all parental rights to you and Terra, that's all. Just in case something goes wrong. I would just hate for something to complicate things for you later on. Not that you don't have a great friendship, but sometimes even in families things go wrong. Just trying to look out for you, hun. Glad you're getting a form that names Terra legal guardian in case something happens!

I have thought about it and thought about it, and I don't want his rights taken away. We are all goin to be a part in raising this child. I might regret this decision later, but for now, that's what we have decided.

How very cool!!!! I LOVE the idea of you guys having your baby's father involved! Although (voice of reason here...) you guys all need to sit down and talk legalities...and make sure you are all three absolutely on board with whatever decision you make, as far as "parental rights" go...
Now back to me cheering for you! Seriously, I love this idea and think it's awesome!

I would get guidance from a lawyer on how best to write up the legal documents. This can be so tricky and you want to make sure you've covered all your bases and there's no loop holes.
