Ok, so last night we had to go to the wake/viewing of my husband's uncle who was unfortunately killed in a motorcycle accident (btw, KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN when driving! PAY ATTENTION to the road! Ok, off my soap box now...)

So anyways, one of DH's cousins had her 5 month old baby there (who I completely and shamelessly "baby stalked" all night long...)

But apparently at some point in the night, the mother came over to us and told us that DH's mother told her to come over and "rub off on us". Because APPARENTLY we must not want kids (since we don't have them yet) and having a fertile rub off on us is supposed to make us want children!

UGH! I mean SERIOUSLY? Course, I was trying to take it with a grain of salt and laugh along with it and was telling the cousin(mother of the baby) "hahaha really? is this how it works? I musta missed that day in sex-ed!"

But, of course, we kept getting questions all night "so when are YOU going to have a baby?"

seriously - THIS QUESTION SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE ASKED! But my husband, (who later told me he really wanted to scream at everyone "we can't, my ----- is broken!"
but my husband kept telling everyone "nope, we don't need kids, we want to have money and nice things".

that shut them up. lol.

but seriously - if this is what I'm going to have to look forward at EVERY family gathering (and c'mon this was a WAKE for gods sake...) I don't want to go! Yes, part was my fault for "baby-stalking" (I couldn't help it he was sooooooooo darn adorable! lol) but still.

I'm just getting SO sick and tired of being made feel like we don't WANT children just because we don't have them yet.

Do you know how awesome it would be if just rubbing up on a fertile woman is how it worked??? Couldn't you just see everyone here going up and rubbing up on random strangers in walmart who have 3 or 4 kids hanging off of her?

My gawd I wish that worked

That is so sucky. I'm sorry you had to deal with that crud, especially at a somber occasion. I've had my fair share of that stuff...and after a few years, I started telling people off, including my own mother. It's just, unfortunately, something that we have to deal with. I know that doesn't make it any easier, but know that you're not the only one out there dealing with this crap.

Yeah, that would be nice if that's all it took or simply 'drinking the water' haha!

I am sorry you had to go through that especially at a time like this. DH and I are tired of that too and DH said from now on when people ask he's going to respond "Oh, possibly next week.... we found one on Craigslists we are going to check out"... hahahaha it's just kind of fun to get a reaction from people saying that

Sorry about that, as much as we don't get that many questions about ti, come christmas my family ALWAYS ask about babies and weddings.

Talking of 'catching' pregnancy, when I went to visit my friend last week who had just had a baby, as I was holding the 2-day old yet to be namedbeautiful little girl, we joked that maybe my baby hormones would go into overdrive! She's knows were trying and it was so sweet of her and funny at the same time!

@Dawn - that's sorta like we keep joking how, there's a store here in indy called "BuyBuy Baby" and every time we pass by it we yell "false advertising!" you can't "buy" a baby in there!!

That or we always joke around about going to a neighborhood on the east side of indy that is unfortunately known very well on the news for finding toddlers wandering around by themselves...we're just gonna go over there one day and pick one up, their parents won't miss em!

I would want to rub against Michelle Duggar... she's definitely got enough fertility for a few women!

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. We aren't sharing our ttc status with family atm. They knew we were waiting until 2014.. we should not get many "when is it going to happen" comments until after then. Hopefully though, we get a lil one next year.

I guess you just have to do that sometimes.

You are much nicer than I! Last time a friend said something like that to me I told her that not everyone can have kids so easily and that if me and DH weren't broken we'd have babies by now... Yah, I get snotty, but after 3 years of ttc I figure I'm entitled to tell them how I feel, they asked so they must want to know

I've *****ed out our families for making comments about children. I can't stand it. They stopped asking

Once you tell people you've been trying for years and/or have had a loss, they tend to shut up quick. We shouldn't have to share that info to achieve that though.

I usually just say, "we would love children, but apparently my body doesn't make babies." That's usually the end of that discussion.

I agree with the other ladies. If I get that question again, I think I'll just tell them that we are having fertility problems and to mind their own business!
