It's basically Twilight but instead of vampires/werewolves, it's got a porn/bdsm twist.

I've read the first one... and am not impressed at all by it.. I still don't know why everyone is raving over it (but then, I was not impressed by twilight... i did like the plotline and read the entire thing a few times..but the literary technique was awful..)

But it basically comes down to... if you loved twilight... you'll like 50 shades.

So, if I know little/nothing about Twilight? Other than it's got some vampire stuff?

I know a lot of diehard twiHATERS who loved 50 shades until we told em it had been a twilight fan fic. LOL.

I tried so hard to stay off the twilight bandwagon.. until I watched a mislabeled movie.. since I don't often pay full attention I didn't realize it was twilight until about 20 minutes in. LOL

As long as you're not looking for a well written book and don't mind the over dramatics and sentences that make it seem like they were going through a thesaurus to make their wording seem more...pretentious (see what I did there?) .. then you might like it. Enjoy it for the story alone

And.. keep in mind all the bdsm type stuff in there.. would absolutely never ever happen that way. I know I'm sounding like a broken record on it... but there's reason.

Editted to add.. I'm not trying to say anything negative really...because it's possible to enjoy badly written books, because they have a good plotline/story/etc... just, don't expect the best writing in the world.

Ahhh, got it. Sometimes, I really enjoy poorly written books. But only sometimes I have so many books to read...but I think I'll eventually have to read it. Sort of like when I finally jumped on the Stieg Larsson bandwagon, much later than everyone else. I'm now just about 1/4 into the 3rd. I usually try and avoid anything that's "fad-ish", but after that first book getting so many rave reviews, I finally caved. (Glad I did, too, I love the books).

Added to book list

I've heard about it, as well, but only superficially. I didn't know, for example, that it's based on the Twilight, er, uh... story. (I TRIED to get through the first book, really I did try. But I couldn't. I realized 1/2 way through that I didn't care about the characters, and I could NOT get over the author's writing style - or, lack of writing style). Maybe I'll think about borrowing it from a friend, in case I can't finish it, for whatever reason.

We just got home from vacation today We had a blast but I was so glad to be back in Canada when we crossed that border. First we went to BC for a family get together for 2 days, got to celebrate Canada Day there in a little hippy town at a big farmer's market/celebration so that was a blast. Hubby bought us a very cool barn wood frame with a cute farm scene in it.

Then we headed down to Idaho to Silverwood Theme Park (just north of Coeurs D'Alene). We met up with his older brother and his wife and kids there, they were camping in the camp ground there. We spent 3 days in the park and it was a blast!

I'm so happy to be home to my animals!

My last cycle was funky, but it was my first off BC since last year (I was on nuvaring for about 10 months). I did not go back onto my normal cycle right away like I did last time It was only 25 days and I did not ovulate Before going on nuvaring I was 34-36 days and ovulated on day 19-21 every month like clock work. Blah. I hope I bounce back and ovulate this cycle!!

I'm only really reading it because I know it will get me in the mood Post O when I'm almost willing to usually do ANYTHING to get DH to leave me alone. God we need insurance.. this isn't normal for me!! My last relationship prior to Dh ended because I wanted it all the dang time.

Hi ladies! I am back from vacation and doing tons of laundry. We were camping in 100 degree heat for 6 days, so, yeah, lots of laundry. And we're leaving again on Thursday for DH's family reunion in Kansas City. It is a very busy month for us!

You are brave souls. We could barely leave the house this week. I actually had purple fingers because there was so much humidity my lungs couldn't get the right amt of oxygen!

Enjoy the reunion!

Hi ladies, I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! We had a great one. And because we had a great weekend, I'm soooo tired today. I hope this will be a good week for everyone!

BTW, I did not want to jump on the Twilight bandwagon either, but I did read the books and because of that, I've seen the movies. I liked the Hunger Games much better. I will probably read 50 shades..., several of my friends read the series and loved it.

I've actually heard 50 Shades is terrible LOL Bad writing. I have several friends who started it and couldn't finish. That being said, they might be a lot more "picky" about what they read. I don't mind an easy read if the plot is good I read a lot of Nora Roberts LOL I didn't like the writing at all in Twilight though. Bella's character drove me a little nuts too. I read the whole series but I can't re-read it like I can most LOL

We had a pretty easy weekend. It's HOT here (well for here) so no riding for me, and I saved Lucy's walks for about 8:30 pm. We just un-packed from our trip, caught up on yard work, and tried to escape the heat.

I discovered something dangerous yesterday.

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan.. and ... found out that a 31 disc HP set is coming out in September...for the bluray it's $350..which is way way too much..but sadly... I'm pre-ordering it today :S

We have been drooling over that presale for weeks now...I know we'll buy it, but we just really need to use the dollars for other things right now. We already have all on DVD, all but the #7 pt 2 on Blu Ray, and we may have even had #1 on VHS We also have 2 copies of all the books, since DH and I were usually reading them at the same time, we couldn't wait until the other was finished, so we had to get 2 of each. We are crazy. There was a HP marathon on TV this weekend...I watched quite a bit!

I'm a huge Harry Potter geek!! I have all the movies on DVD, and all the books. I was reading the books before the movies ever came out. Hubby hasn't read the books but he loves the movies and let me drag him to see them all in theatre

YAY!!! I'm not the only HP fan out here..teehee.. Everything except the last 2 on bluray.. since I knew I'd buy a box set.

I don't exactly have the money either right now..but I'll find a way to make it work

For the books, that is too funny Karin!!! The most book thing I can say is.. I have them in PDF on my reader.. and I have both the American and Canadian paperback versions ... I started reading them when I lived in the US and had the first 5 books from there..then when I came home I read the Canadian versions and couldn't believe how many things they changed (other than the philosophers/sorcerer's change..they also changed a bunch of names of candies, some brit slang terms, etc...)...everything was pretty minor in the changes..but I like to stay true to the original writing

If you take a really good look at what's included, it's not worth having. It has so many discs because it includes more than one type of format. We did the math and we will keep waiting. The amt of exclusive bonus wasn't worth the extra $200 for us.

Had a good day despite the heat! No work for me on Mondays. I did some gardening (I have a ton of strawberries and cherry tomatoes coming in! YUM!), stripped and re-bedded the chicken coop and washed out their waterers and filled them up. It was too hot to ride so I just dumped and scrubbed the horses' trough and re-filled it and hosed the horses down (they were very thankful for the cool off! LOL). Got some reading done too, and lots of laundry, and now hubby and I are about to BBQ some steaks and will take Lucy (dog) for a walk later tonight when it cools off some. Life is good

Hmm... I didn't know that either. I have the last... 3 in Canadian, and then purchased a few US ones... I guess I should actually read my US versions.

I will admit, I've heard of this happening before with British things in the US. I don't get why they feel the need to make changes... the originals were fine, they didn't need meddling.
