In this day and age of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"...I know there are sometimes/some things that just aren't feasible...

1. What’s something whose disposable version has replaced its non-disposable version in your house?
2. What disposable item do you almost never use because you greatly prefer the non-disposable version?
3. If they could somehow create a disposable version of something that is currently not available in a disposable format, what would you like to see?
4. What disposable item do you feel the most guilty about using?
5. What disposables do you tend to use more than the usual amount before discarding?

In this day and age of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"...I know there are sometimes/some things that just aren't feasible...

1. What’s something whose disposable version has replaced its non-disposable version in your house? plastic containers that only stick around a few uses rather than the more pricey versions that last forever

2. What disposable item do you almost never use because you greatly prefer the non-disposable version? no idea

3. If they could somehow create a disposable version of something that is currently not available in a disposable format, what would you like to see? cheap digital cameras so that I way I wouldn't be afraid of losing mine or getting it when on the occasions I do go into a bar

4. What disposable item do you feel the most guilty about using? Um... Plastic cups?

5. What disposables do you tend to use more than the usual amount before discarding? Plastic cups. We reuse the at least once before throwing them out.

this topic is really touchy for me. Being from Nova Scotia where Recycling is required to the max or you are fined on a regular basis... it shocks me to see the lack of it in the US and the size of the landfills and the complaining from the people about them. So much ends up in the landfills that doesn't need to be there.

Dh makes fun of me for how much I can reuse. If something comes in a box (let's say a toaster) I will reuse that dang box. If it came in a plastic container and I can get it clean... I will reuse it. I don't trust the recycling, since I can't get any real information on it from the city other than "it goes to a facility"....

I get that recycling programs like NS has are expensive (there's an $85 fee per home for a "green bin" for composting, per year, and since it's chemically composted they can't use it on food growing, but it all does get used in landscaping since it wont actually HURT you, you just shouldn't eat what's grown in it. lol) and they added an extra bit to property taxes to help cover the costs (food businesses cover the majority of it, since they make more than the average home)... but each home is allowed like 3 bags of trash a week.. and even our family of 5 didn't always have that because of the composting and the recyling bags. We also have a can return program. You pay 10 cents on each can, and return it for 5.

Dh's first reaction was "we have to have rotting food in the house".. I smacked him and hold him we already do and pointed to the garbage bag. I'd much rather it in a little bin with a cover that I can line with a compostable bag (it's a cellulose bag) and take out every two days, than the garbage bag that sits in here for 3 wide open.

I don't really have an "causes" in my life.. but I'd love for my children's children to be able to play outside with out the threat of melting into the ground or playing in trash... and if things keep going as they are... that may be their reality.

1. What’s something whose disposable version has replaced its non-disposable version in your house? paper towels (I have elderly incontinent dogs, enough said)
2. What disposable item do you almost never use because you greatly prefer the non-disposable version? plastic/paper cups, I love my cups with straws that are reusable
3. If they could somehow create a disposable version of something that is currently not available in a disposable format, what would you like to see? no idea
4. What disposable item do you feel the most guilty about using? paper towels, for sure, because we go through so many...but again, incontinent dogs.
5. What disposables do you tend to use more than the usual amount before discarding? ziploc baggies...I always bring my snacks to the Park in them, and since my snacks are usually not perishable, I reuse the baggies until they almost disintegrate!

Tough questions! DH and I are big into recycling and anytime I do not see people recycle I cringe! We changed all our lightbulbs to energy efficient lightbulbs. We have the big recycling bin for our recyclable garbage. Try to reuse whenever possible!
