So I've stalked this (and other TTC boards) for awhile now. This will be our first month officially TTC! My problem is I have the craziest cycles on planet earth and it's making me anxious.

A little background: I had regular 28-30 day cycles with almost no spotting for pretty much my entire adult life until last March when DH deployed. Suddenly things went haywire and my cycles lengthened to 40+ days and became extremely irregular (I've experienced lengths anywhere between 23 and 46 days in the last 8 cycles). I chocked it up to stress. DH returned in November but then we started prepping for an overseas move. My cycles did not regulate but again, I figured stress and the move. Now we've been settled for about two months and I'm still getting crazy cycles! I started tracking the length 8 cycles ago and started using OPKs 4 cycles ago to try and make heads or tails of it and I'm honestly at a loss. My O day isn't standard, LP isn't standard -- nothing. I suspect a problem with progesterone bc of all the random spotting but I'm not sure?

For context: I'm 28 and otherwise healthy. I haven't been on HBC for over 5 years now (DH and I use condoms). I eat well (almost gluten and sugar free), exercise very regularly and my BMI is 19.6. AF, when she does come, is pretty standard I think: cramps, back cramps, bloating, moody, about 4 days long, not including spotting.

It's frustrating that my cycles were so regular for my entire adult life when my whole goal was NOT to get pregnant and now that I want to they are crazy out of whack! I've posted a chart of my cycles below hoping that someone, anyone, might be able to shed light or offer personal advice! Anyone have something that looked similar?

I don't consider the LP over until full flow has started (i.e. I include spotting in the LP). I count my O day as the day after I receive a +OPK (the day I get the darkest line on the test).

1: 40 days, spotting CD 38-40
2: 29 days, no spotting, but v. light AF
3: 23 days, spotting CD 23
4: 36 days, spotting CD 35-36
5: 29 days, O CD18, LP 11, spotting CD 29
6: 46 days, O CD 13, LP 33, spotting CD 36, 42, 46 (maybe I didn't O here but I had a +OPK and EWCM. how is a 33 day LP even possible!?!?!)
7: 25 days, O CD 13, LP 12, spotting CD 24-25
8: 37 days, O CD 23, LP 14, spotting CD 35

I don't track BBT (yet) and would like to avoid chasteberry and chlomid if I can but of course that will depend on how long it actually takes us TTC.

Thanks, ladies and GL to you all!! xx

Hi there, I'm Nicholle,

I'm so sorry sweetie. I'm not exactly sure what's going on. It's great that you are temping and using OPKs, that is always helpful. While I was reading your post, I thought that your irregular cycles must be stress induced, but to continue to have irregular cycles due to stress, idk. If I were you I would see my gyn or a specialist as your cycle is not regular and you may not be ovulating at all. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi, I'm Jen

Thats a lot of information to process and i'm so sorry that your having these problems. I would suggest you consider tracking your temps as this will help to confirm O. From your inconsistent cycle lengths and what you thought to be LP lengths, I suspect you may not be ovulating when you think, as you can get +ve OPK's without actually O'ing. Do you take OPK's all cycle or stop after you get a positive?

About your 33 day LP - i dont think it is possible! when charting anything with more than 18 high temps is considered pregnant.

As to the cause i dont have any answers / suggestions, perhaps you need to give your body a little while longer to settle after your move? otherwise, I agree with Nicholle in that you might want to see an OBGYN / doctor and see what they suggest

Good Luck and KUP

Another thing to consider is exercise and it's changes to your cycles. Between that and a pretty low BMI, it can throw off your cycle a bit. This is mostly only if you exercise heavily every day or something. I don't know if this is the case for you but it is something to consider.

My guess about the 33 day LP is you either didn't O at all, or you had a double peak - meaning your body went to O but couldn't for some reason and then tried with a different follicle later in the cycle. You often get +OPKs twice when you have a double peak, but I imagine you stopped using them after the first positive?

Also you don't always O the day after you get the +OPK. If I remember right your O could be anywhere from 12 hours after positive to 48 hours after. So that could account for the LP being different the other months.

I would definitely start temping if you can as that will confirm when you O.

Hi there!

I suggest what the other ladies did - temping is the only way to know FOR SURE when you ovulated. You can get a positive OPK without actually ovulating, but the temperature spike is forever. If you haven't yet, read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It is the handbook on really understanding what's going on, and I highly recommend it, both for you and your DH to read. And then, start charting on Fertility Friend so we can all stalk your chart!

One last thing - your BMI is a little low. They say the "magic number" is 22, but obviously, that's a generalization. Have you lost weight recently or changed your diet in the time that your cycles have changed? It seems counter intuitive, but sometimes those things can really make a difference!

Good luck and looking forward to getting to know you!
