My OPK/PG tests came yesterday (earlier than expected!). I showed them to DH, and this conversation ensued:

Me: So here is an OPK.
DH: How do they work?
Me: Well, the science is cool (I explain LH surge, dropping an egg, etc). So this helps determine when you are going to ovulate.
DH: So wait, you put the test strip up your hooha and you get chemicals on it? Or do you get an egg on it?
Me: Um...let's start over...

I was dying. Like spitting out my dinner with laughter.

Anyhow, question: So with PG tests, you use FMU. Do you have to have concentrated urine for the OPKs? I assumed not since you sometimes have to test more than once a day.

Love the story!! My DH thought that the girl had to have an orgasm to get pregnant. I had to explain to him that while it's nice if the girl has an orgasm, it's actually the guy that needs to have the orgasm in order for the girl to get pregnant. LOL

That is hilarious!!!

I have heard that LH surges most commonly in the AM so evening is the best time to test. And to not drink anything (I get thirsty, so I am usually sipping on something, but try not to drink too much) for a couple hours before you test so that it will be somewhat concentrated. I only like to test once a day, so I test around 6 or 7.

*edited to add* Also, test line has to be as dark as or darker than the control line, in case you didn't know, cuz I didn't know at first.

that is hilarious!!!

This is what Fertility Friend has to say on the subject:
Follow the manufacturer's instructions about the time to take your OPK. First morning urine is usually not the best for OPKs since your LH surge usually begins in early morning when you are still sleeping and may not be apparent in your first morning urine. If you test in the early morning, you may miss your surge entirely since LH levels may already be reduced by the next morning. Late morning or early afternoon is usually best unless the instructions suggest otherwise.

Best of luck to you!!!!

I just busted out laughing in my cubicle!!! HEHEHEHEHE!!!! Hilarious, DH and I had to have this talk a few times. FMU is better for HCG's.

Yes you want semi concentrated urine for an opk. FMU not ideal UNLESS you're using a test that states to use FMU (Like the Clear Blue Digi opk).

I test two or more times a day.. because I'm a fast surger.

And your story is funny. I had to explain the color difference to DH. When we first started using opks, we were TTA.. so I kept telling him.. two dark lines on a Blue = be careful. Two lines on a pink = shoulda been more careful (since wondfo opk's are blue, and hpt's are pink). He'd still freak out at least once a month seeing an opk laying somewhere.

Okay, all of this concentrated urine talk sparks another question...

I've been drinking a ton more water now than I did last month. What precautions should I take when I start using OPK's to make sure that my urine isn't too watered down???

I caught my husband peeing on one once! I laughed out loud at the idea of putting an egg on it!
