DH and I are going to a preconception consultation with my ob-gyn tomorrow. I am wondering if any of you have some questions I should ask. I have a blood clotting disorder and have shots twice a day to take care of that. I was switched to the shots because they don't cross the placental barrier to hurt a baby. I also was diagnosed with anemia, due to the blood thinners. So I am on supplements for that too. I just want to have an appointment to talk Tit all out before we actively start TTC.

Anything you ladies can recommend I discuss/ask? T-minus 26 hours until the appointment.

The main questions I asked at my preconception appointment were all about TTC. I got prescribed to a prenatal and my doctor ran some blood tests while I was there.

Some general questions I asked:

- What do you think about exercise while TTC? Any restrictions or suggestions?
- Is my weight alright?
- Am I at risk for any problems?
- Do I need any immunizations before I get pregnant?
- Do you have any specific diet restrictions for me while TTC?
- Thoughts on caffeine and alcohol consumption while TTC?
- What over the counter medications should I avoid while TTC?
- Any general TTC advice you have for me?
- How long can we start TTC after I am off BCP?

I wish I had asked more questions to make sure I was with the right doctor once I was pregnant. My doctor had very different views on pregnancy than I did so I had to switch doctors. I can go more into that if you have questions about that

With the clotting disorder and other medical issues, I plan on researching the best hospital to give birth at...and then working backwards to find a doctor that is affiliated with the hospital of my choice. I haven't been with my ob-gyn that long. Although I like her, I feel like I need to be really comfortable that a hospital can handle complications I or my baby could possibly have, and she may not be affiliated with my choice. But for now, she has been involved since my testing and diagnosis of the blood clotting disorder, so she's my go-to for TTC.

I am a big list maker haha - I still had the list on my computer from last April when I had my preconception appointment

Sara - that seems like a good plan then The only suggestion I would make is that as soon as you get your BFP make your appointment with the doctor you want to have through pregnancy and not the old doctor. It may not seem like a big deal but switching doctors after I was pregnant cause so many complications and major headaches and insurance problems that I never saw coming. But that could have just been my experience.

I pretty much had this experience - luckily, when it didn't happen, he has been very good about helping out.

I also agree with the "ask about pregnancy" question. If this is to be your doc till the end, ask how they deal with labor and delivery... What are their views? And more importantly, how do those views mesh with your own?

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Great questions. My medical group believes in having TTC appointments only if a year has gone by with no luck. Great questions. When I have my next OB appt I will definitely have to ask these.
