Since I make just above min wage, and only a few hours a week... I pay almost nothing in taxes every two weeks (I do pay into Medicare and SSI).

Tonight, since we have an extension on our taxes, decided to plug the numbers into a program just to see how much we're going to be out.

Well, All was ok for DH, but then I started plugging in my own information... I made roughly 300 at just above min wage. Well that 300 made us pay $200 more to Wisconsin and get back $200 less in Federal (which we don't see, since DH has a federally kept foreclosure balance)! That's more than I freaking made!

We've been toying with me leaving anyway. My boss isn't following my availability very well, and since DH and I are already struggling with him being gone, not being home extra time to talk to him just isn't happening. When I told him we wouldn't talk at all next Saturday if my boss didn't switch the shift, DH cried. Not to mention that working out just isn't happening. I'm too afraid to be in pain for work, that I'm just not doing ANYTHING.

So Dh told me I can put in my 2 weeks on the condition that I promise to actually go work out, and make him workout when he does finally come home (though he's looking at jobs in Colorado, Wyoming and Florida after this one).

While my employee discount is awesome.... it really doesn't save us enough to warrant me being there.

How crazy am I to be thinking of going in on Monday and giving my notice?

It doesn't sound very crazy to me. That is ridiculous that you are having to pay that much in taxes while earning so little. It seems a bit off. If you guys can afford it and it would benefit your relation then I absolutely believe it is not crazy to put in your notice.

Thats madness about the taxes. Now, as a given I know very little about how or what you ladies all do with taxes but that seems ridiculous! I Can't blame you for thinking of quitting, all the more better if it means you can get a good exercise regime in place

The issue lies in the fact all of DH's income comes from out of our actual homestate.

Take the last two years for example.

He's paid taxes to Indiana and Ohio for income earned in their states. Indiana gives every penny back. Ohio doesn't. Then Wisconsin takes all that income, and taxes it all again... cause we are residents here. Since he has a foreclosure that's owned by the government (he was part of the illegal foreclosure BS in 2009), he doesn't get his Federal returns either. So last year he paid about $1500 in state taxes to Indiana and Ohio, we saw about $800 of that back... and Wisconsin sent us a bill for $1900.

2011 will be similar, just more income, plus what I earned in state. So they're taking what I earned, adding it to DH's, and Taxing us more. Someone suggested it might bump us a tax bracket... and they might be right... With his income, plus unemployment, and my measly bit.. we might move from higher low middle class, to lower regular middle class... therefore changing the tax bracket ARGH.

At least for 2013 we get to Claim Reme....yay for small blessings. We would have owed another $400 with out him last year

We had a crazy tax situation here too - luckily, New York will not do the double tax thing - if we paid tax on it in one state, they will not make us pay more.

The only incredibly frustrating thing is that because several of the jobs DH got were short-term things, they gave him 1099s instead of W2s, we are getting taxed on that money at some ungodly rate. Oh, and even though we spent like 7K on education last year, we don't get any of the tax breaks. Bah humbug.

It doesn't help that I know nothing about tax codes... I don't even know about Canada's. LOL.

At least this year I could have done our taxes myself... Next year we have to pay someone since we have to file a form for Reme. Oi. Seriously I may go and get our taxes done with L next year and see if her refund comes back better claiming Reme than it does helping us.... cause if so She's offered to claim him any years and just give us the difference.

I got dinged on my taxes big time two years ago... So badly that paying the taxes required me to get a second job, which would again mess up my taxes... But I needed a second job to pay what I owed.

I got a job milking cows at one of the farms near us (I grew up on a dairy farm, so luckily when cash got tight from my university skill-related job, I had something to fall back on.)

So, then one day the farmer himself had to milk with me...

And he was mighty cute.....

And then a year and a half later I married him. True story!

So, the moral is this: out there, somewhere, is a person whose horrible tax luck turned into something wonderful.

Sorry to hear about your taxes. I hope it turns out in the end.

That's a sweet story Anna!!

I put in my notice. I won't get into details, but we figure this is what will be best for us.

Now I just need Wisconsin to re-send me a tax bill so I can start paying on what we owe from last year... ugh. Need to find the one from Canada too....

Taxes are so insanely frustrating like that!!! In 2009 when DH worked in 2 states we ended up owing more than he made in taxes we are still figuring that mess out! I can't believe that working can cause you to pay more taxes than you made but it really can. . . I think quitting is a reasonable thing to do I hope you enjoy the freedom it gives you and you are able to work out again sorry you have to deal with that mess. Taxes are super annoying. . .

I gave it Saturday when I was at work

I'm being nice and actually giving them 2 weeks since we were short on employees anyway. Plus, it'd be nice to maybe be able to go back one day if I needed a job... maybe 80lbs lighter and I'd actually like it. LOL
