So after seeing some wonky lines on HPT's (Wondfo's) recently, it sounded like a great idea and fun to do some mini experiments (who says we dont need things to amuse us whilst waiting to O or during the 2ww )

If you want to join in - crush a prenatal, add to water and dissolve. Dip a HPT.

Share the result - pic if possible and your brand of prenatal

So much fun (if not a little crazy)

my stuff's still processing. I'll be taking photos shortly. And I'll take a wondfo when I take my opk here shortly too... just to see if I get a wonky line.

Here's my experiment. (some of these are gross)

CoQ10 -

yes there is a faint line

Cranberry Fruit:

Middle test. No line

Vitamin D3

Middle test. No line

Vitamin B6

Bottom test. Line

CD 11 pee. Line (ROTFLMAO)

Rainbow Light, Prenatal One. *GAG* these will go down hard from now on after seeing this.

OPK in Prenatal:

HPTS in Prenatal:

Lesson Learned: Take your hpt and opk before your prenatal.. or wait a long time.

Whoa! What was that last one!? You wouldn't even question the result if you POAS'ed and got that. Is that from the Rainbow prenatal? Wasn't quite sure.

I have never gotten a false positive or even an evap on an HPT, but I haven't really been supplementing with anything except B-100 complex and some Gummy-vites which are basically candy.... I think we know why you've been getting the weird lines now.

Wow!! Crazy results! Confession: I hate taking anything like that (even my gummies) so I'm waiting until I actually get a +HPT to start. Now I'm thinking it's an even better move!! Lol

Oh my gosh!!!!!!! I feel like you should publish a paper

I can not believe that last one. . . looks like a blaring BFP!

I got everything all set up last night. . . and then Thor got in the fireplace again so he got a bath instead. I will finish today on my lunch break!

Yes, Rainbow Light Prenatal One (meaning one pill vs the 3 that you take in their mini's). And yes, 3hrs after taking the prenatal and B6 last night, I received a faint line on a hpt, darker than the one that I got during the experiment.

I will actually discourage this. You need what's in those vitamins to have the healthiest conception, especially the folic acid. Waiting is not a good idea. And since you will likely spend 8 weeks throwing up your vitamin, may as well get the good stuff in now.

Dude.. my pregnancy in July didn't net a hpt that freaking dark!

That was my darkest wondfo during my miscarriage. Of course, these were also before wondfo's became some of the worst tests on the dang market. I wonder if I contact the seller on amazon where I buy them they could get me contact info for Wondfo. They no longer include the manufacturer contact slip in the bag with the tests *rolls eyes*.

Wow, very cool tests. Thanks for doing that!

I would caution that it's not the most accurate experiment. You're putting vitamins in a small amount of water, so the vitamins/minerals are still incredibly concentrated, and they're reacting in a way that's different from how they react when in your body.

When you swallow a vitamin, it takes a while for your body to process it. It's not like you're just throwing it in your bladder (sorry for the imagery on that one) and letting it soak up the pee.

It's cool to keep in mind though, but like Ashley said, I wouldn't NOT take vitamins b/c of this

Except with in 3 hours of taking my prenatal last night, I received a positive pregnancy test. And have been having his issues for 3 cycles with EVERY brand of pregnancy test I've tried (FRER, ANSWER, one blue dye test brand, dollar tree, walmart brand 88 cent tests, wondfos). This is why it's an issue... our vitamins shouldn't be giving us positive tests, and I'm not the only person it's happening to. I really don't think our "evaps" are evaps, they're tests picking up traces of vitamins in our bodies... which just isn't right.

The darker of the two hpt positives was taken with the vitamin in 4 tbsp of water. The second, is the vitamin mixed into 500ml (which is 16 oz?.. I think...), which I didn't specify. I thought about mixing it into a gallon, but I was too angry about the light positives to start with.

I totally agree with you, it's odd that's it's happening at all.

Wonder if the faint +'s you and others are getting has to do with a combination of individual body compositions and other meds (OTCs, vitamins, RX)?

I mean, what could possibly be happening on a chemical level with prenatals that resembles HCG? We need a pharmacist or chem major, stat.

Thanks for sharing Ashley - that last one is crazy! Scary even!

I have gone ahead and crushed my prenatals (I have two brands in the house etm) and they are doing their stuff at the moment. I will test and post pics later on today.

I too wanted to add that this shouldnt discourage anyone from taking prenatals ESPECIALLY FOLIC ACID whilst ttc. Your babies really need though vits and minerals to be strong and healthy. If you're actively ttc, you should be on some form of folic acid, ideally also a prenatal. Any doc would tell you the same

How much Vitamin C is in your prenatals Jen? It's the Vit C that gives you what we in this house call highlighter pee . DH gets it too from his vitamin.. only he takes much more vit c than I do. I have no idea how he handles it.

The one thing I'll say, is the lines are usually purple, not pink, not grey after you've consumed them and tested.

And Jen, I'd rather have it turn bright orange, than the awful mud color mind did! *gag*

If it wasn't for the fact that a white wondfo is more rare than an "evap" I would agree with you. I had no issues with wonky lines until January.. when I started this prenatal. I'd been on another brand before. I mean, I've had lines.. but they were light and pink.. only after 8 dpo.. chemical pregnancies. These lines... well.. let me get a picture.

the little arrow indicates 8dpo I think, the ones below were taken before (I was bored) the ones above, taken after. My 2nd cycle on the new vitamins.
