Well ladies my appointment went well

They did some blood work Estridol to see where my levels are and also an Ultrasound. The Ultrasound showed that I have 3 Follicles on the Left Ovary and 1 Follicle on the Right Ovary.

The cyst I had 2 months ago on my L & R ovary are gone...Yay!!

I start Follistim 600AQ tomorrow CD3 in the afternoon and then I'm to return to his office on Monday 10th @9:50 for more blood work and another ultrasound to see how the meds are working.

I asked about the Progesterone Gel & Ovidrel because I've never used it before, so I don't take those right now. I take once I ovulate I think? It was so information that I will ask again on Monday.

Thanks Elle!! It was nice to get good news for once. I'm excited to start the meds tomorrow, hopefully I won't have terrible side effects.

So exciting. I suspect that you will be told to trigger O using the Ovidrel once you have a follie / follies of optiumum size and then advsed on TI (timed intercourse) - as i I remember your not doing IUI right?? The progesterone gel will be used post O - not sure of timescales though - i'm sure someone else can helpwith that one!

Yay for great follies - grow follies grow!

Yes, Jen that's exactly what the nurse was saying I should do...Your too smart

And no we aren't doing IUI, my doc wants to start this first and if it doesn't work we will move onto IUI. Do you know how many follicles are normal to have?

Hi there, I know I'm not a familiar name, but I'll call myself a vet, and just say that, well, I spent some time here

You will likely go back several times once you start the Follistim, and once your follies are at the appropriate size (i.e. to the liking of your doctor), you will be told to use the Ovidrel. This will trigger ovulation, usually 24-36 hours after you do the injection(s). I'm not as familiar with TI, but I presume that you will get some instruction as to when is optimal. You will likely also take the prog gel after O, as directed by your doc.

The number of follies in each woman can vary greatly, and the optimal number can also differ, depending on the woman, her history, the type of MA procedure/protocol, etc. It can range anywhere from 1 follicle to 20 and up. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no "norm", and its just about what you and your doctor feel is a "good" number, relative to your own personal situation.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks Karin - we miss you round these parts!

And tonya - I can say that for me, I was told I needed at least 1 follie over 17mm to trigger. If I had more than 3, they would have cancelled the IUI as there is an obvious increased risk of multiples which are a no-no on the NHS. When I had my last scan, on the left I had 1 follie at 16.5mm, 1 at 10mm and on the right I had one at 13mm. I triggered two days later so they would have grown some more by then, they say they grow around 1-2mm per day
