Hi Ladies!!

Some of you may remember me, for those of you who dont, I am Kelley. My fiance and I were NTNP for about a year, and TTC for about 6 months before I got pregnant. I had a loss between 5-6 weeks, sadly. We decided to take a break and start planning our wedding.

So..........here we are, its June, I have 3 months until my wedding. We will get married September 21, 2013. Exactly 3 months from Friday! I'm excited, but so much to do yet!

Anyways......I need some advice.

I went back on my BCP after I miscarried in February. Since I've been on them, I've been skipping my periods just because they are HELL to deal with. And I just didn't want to have to put up with it during wedding planning. BUT, I'm having some major issues with it. I'm on a generic pill, Mononessa (?) So I take my daily pill and skip the last week so I am not supposed to have a period. It worked well for about the first 2 months, but the last couple months I've had a lot of spotting and there is no pattern to it. Its so frustrating because just when I think I'm in the clear it comes back. Its not ever a lot........but its there, some days enough I need to wear a tampon in the morning. Otherwise, just a light panty liner will do. But......... its so ANNOYING. I cant time it, it shows up out of no where, and I'm beginning to think I'm just messing my body up even more for when we do start trying again.

I dont want to get pregnant before the wedding, but I dont want to be right back where we started and have to try for another year + if I can avoid it. So, I'm wondering if I should go off the pill and try something else for now? Or stick it out and just try to have a period or what??? THe other thing is obviously I dont want to have my period on my wedding. Its such a gamble to play with it now.........

Help!

Welcome back, I'm sorry about your miscarriage. You could always use another form of protection and go off the pill. You can use all of the same "ttc" techniques in reverse to avoid getting pregnant. I don't know if you are sensitive to latex or spermacides, but my first few months of of BCP we were using an NFP app to "avoid" my fertile days or just used extra protection when I was supposed to be fertile. I can't speak to the effectiveness of this because when we started for real TTC we didn't get pregnant either.

But if I had to do it over again, I definitely would have gotten off BCP waay sooner... I feel like it might have played a part in why everything is so messed up for me now, like my body just doesn't want to make its own hormones now or something.

If you know how long your cycle typically is when you are off the pill, you could (in theory) time going off of BCP so that your period will come before or after the wedding. If it looked like the timing was going to be off, you could get back on the pill a couple weeks before the wedding and possibly delay it?

Congrats on the wedding by the way!

Hi there Kelley! I remember you

Before our wedding I delayed my period one month (because AF would have showed the day before the wedding) I discussed it with my doctor first and she said that would be alright but recommended I not do it more that the one month. She specifically mentioned break through bleeding as a possible side affect.

Honestly I had so much trouble coming off of BCP that I would suggest going ahead and getting off now if you want to begin to TTC again soon after you are married. I dont know if it is healthy to just continually skip periods like that using BCP.

I know this will be a hard choice because you really wont have much wiggle room as to when AF will show around your wedding. Maybe you can consult your doctor and see what they think? But I wish I had gone off BCP at least 6 months before we wanted to start TTC.

Best of luck to you! And congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!!

I was thinking of that too, just watching my charts and avoiding my fertile days.... but then I have to deal with nightmare periods.

I guess I will have to deal with them in a couple months anyways when we start TTC again.......

Ugh, such a tough decision.

I was on BCP for about 10 years before I went off them and we started TTC. My sister keeps telling me " it will happen when its meant to happen". Right, and I wish I could maintain that mentality while TTC, but then you look around and it seems EVERYONE is pregnant except you...

I dont have any advice really but the spotting does sounds like breakthrough bleeding which will happen if you keep running the packs together. I hope you find a solution that works for you & that the wedding plannig is going smoothly!

Thanks for the input ladies.

I think I'll sit down with DF tonight and talk about it....see what he thinks. I mean, not that it would be the end of the world if we ended up conceiving right now, but I would LOVE to enjoy my wedding day and be able to have a few drinks!

I think our best bet right now will be for me to come off BCP and just avoid fertile days. I can deal with the periods if it helps our chances.

The issue is right now.......if I finish this pill pack out like I should, and continue with that I'll have my period right at the week of our wedding. Timing couldn't be better...LOL.

If I started a new pack, then quit halfway thru to delay the period would it start as soon as I quit taking the pill?

That is hard to say. I know they suggest you come off the pill at the end of a cycle to prevent mid cycle bleeding that round -which you are already experiencing anyway. . . but I do think it could make your period show up sooner. I think it is a risk either way. I know every woman is different as well. Some women come off BCP and do begin AF right away and others it may take a few weeks or months.

How did it go for you the first time?

Hi!
So sorry to hear about your loss!
Dh and I conceived on our first cycle after I got mirena IUD taken out...Then sadly miscarried/possible etopic after 6 weeks.
Because of this I'm a little biased and think any kind of hormonal birth control should be avoided....I just think it messes up our bodies natural rhythm and prevents it from doing what it was made to do.
And the spotting could just be your body getting upset that you are skipping your periods
So if it were me, I would probably try and use another form of contraception and start ttc again after the wedding...
Besides it's nice to enjoy your wedding with a few drinks and not have to worry!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Its a gamble either way pretty much... yay. LOL

The last time I quit the pill I got my period within 2 days. FX it repeats and does the same thing. But, I remember also having wonky cycles for the next couple months, and being CONVINCED I was pregnant because I was over 2 weeks "late".

Oy.

Here goes nothin'....

But, on a happier note...check out our adorable engagement picture!!

Kelly... try baby aspirin.

My periods are hell, like I don't leave the house for 3 days hell. Baby aspirin not only changed my periods so I can leave the house, but I've been able to use a tampon for the first time in 5 years pain free and lasting more than 30 minutes!

I was never able to skip more than one period with a normal birth control. after that I'd spot for the rest of it. Sucked!

Ashley.... just normal dose once a day???

And do you take it leading up to your period or just while you're on it?

Never thought of that before....... but I get the almost numbing pain from the waist down, hips & back hurt so bad I dont want to move. I feel heavy pulling/pain in my girl parts and it constantly feels like I have a UTI. Miserable.

I'll be stocking up on Baby Aspirin soon!

Thanks for all the input ladies

Talked with DF last night. He's fine with us just trying to prevent for now using charting. I'm going to finish out this pill pack Sunday, skip the sugar pills one last time, and start a new pack for about a week then quit them in hopes my period will show up.

I'm just going to focus on the wedding right now, let my body sort itself out over the next couple of months and then- end of September.......

ITS BABY MAKING TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
