So I'm getting fed up with the spotting & random days of full on bleeding while I'm back on BC. I'm tired of trying to guess what days I need to wear a panty liner or a full blown pad and how heavy its going to be........ its SO unpredictable. Just when I think I'm done spotting, bam..... it comes back.

So, with the help of you ladies I've decided that I will go off BC in a couple weeks. I'm trying to time it right with the wedding so that hopefully once I stop BC, I'll get my withdrawl bleed/period and it will line up well with the wedding. Not to mention my mood swings and that we'll be TTC again in late September.

ANYWAYS- I'm wondering if anyone has tried using the softcups for that time of the month? I'm so sick of tampons & pads and I just recently learned about these. If you haven't heard of them, here is a link:

Softcup | Softcup Menstrual Cup, The New Generation in Period & Feminine Protection

There are a few different brands- I know softcup is more of a "disposable" version, and there is a "diva cup" that will last up to a year.

For our bachelor/bachelorette party we are doing a river trip July 20th... and by that point I'll be off BC, and hopefully be done with my period, but you never know about random spotting. I was thinking of trying these. There will be lots of drinking involved, in turn.......lots of peeing! LOL and I dont want to mess around with having to find cover and put in a tampon every hour.

So, if you've used them for periods ( i know some women use them to try and help chances with conceiving!) let me know your experience and what you liked/didn't like!

Thanks

No, I'm not sure if I would be able to use that but my friend has one and she loves it.

I have tried the diva, the "instead" soft cup and one more. I ended up with UTI's with all 3 (can't empty bladder fully) and BV with all 3.

The diva lasts about 45 minutes for me, the instead cup needs to be changed hourly.. the other one.. I can't remember, wasn't long. They also caused my cramps to get worse since while they were "filling" stuff would keep my cervix open and it was excruciating.

If you're going to try anything, try the soft cups. Better to waste $9, than $40.

Thats what I was thinking was to try the softcups first....but now that you mention UTI's I wonder if that would be a problem for me too.

I don't have unusually heavy periods, just painful.

Well, I guess all I can do is try!

My periods are pretty heavy I'm afraid I would overflow with that cup.

I use a MeLuna Cup and LOVE it!!! It's medical grade silicone and actually good for the bacterial balance in you. Tampons hurt me and I hate pads. I'll never use anything else!

I found Diva cups way too stiff for me. The MeLuna has a lot of different options. Mine is a "soft" cup, size medium, with a ring stem.

http://www.meluna.ca/

They do have an American web site too, but my Google just pulls the Canadian one.

ETA - my periods are quite heavy and I've never had an issue with filling the cup too much. They hold a lot! On my heavy days I have to empty it twice throughout the day, and on "normal" days (still heavy compared to most) I just empty it morning and before bed.

Mine was $25 shipped.

Their website makes it sound like since it is placed up so high that intercourse is fine.........I really find this hard to believe! We're gonna have to try it just to see! LOL

I havent used them myself but did consider it a while back - I just worried too much about them getting stuck 'up there' and having to go fishing for it

If you do decide to try them, please let us know how it goes

LOl. your hubby will probably be able to "feel" it during sex. It goes up around your cervix, to catch the stuff as soon as it comes out. Depending on the position during sex, he might rub against the ridge of it.

DH and I have used them the ridge didn't bother him. In fact our first time together I was on AF so I braved the impending infection just so it was better for us. LOL
