I knew that pregnancy can cause a woman to have gingivitis, but just recently found out that any rise in female sex hormones can cause it, too (not just the levels from pregnancy). I have recently (within the last 3 months) been having mild gingivitis, and the only thing that has significantly changed is that I went off of the birth control pill last spring... Since then, I've been waiting for my body to regulate, have been having 60 day cycles & unreliable ovulation signs. Could this be a sign that my body is finally making progress at regulating, and that my cycles might be about to straighten out & have regular cycles/ovulation???? FX!!! I sure hope so! (my cycles were TEXTBOOK back before I went on the pill)

(this all just dawned on me, so I haven't had a chance to talk to a dr/dentist about it due to the holidays.)

I've had mild gingivitis my entire life, with or with out the pill. I stopped using fluoride toothpaste this year... no more gingivitis. My gums don't bleed anymore either.

Interesting. I had been wondering about this myself lately.

What kind of toothpaste do you use that doesn't have flouride in it? I didn't have any gingivitis while on the pill for 9+yrs, only recently- the only thing that has changed in my life is that I have not been on the pill for about 8 months now, & have had gingivitis for about 3 months- it's driving me crazy! lol I'm REALLY hoping that it means that my body is starting to take charge of it's own hormones!!!
