The clomid question got me to thinking. I will have been off of the birth control pill in for one year in the end of April. My cycles are still 60 days long, & so far I've only Oed once. If my cycle doesn't straighten out by May, I'd like to do something- WHAT would I do? What would be my options, what are the pros & cons of each, what have you tried yourself? Alternative, traditional, herbal, I'm open to learning about everything.
.
I like to be well informed before going to the doctor, so would appreciate any & all info you care to share with me.
.
Also, what would I look for in a specialist? I have a GP who is a tool, you pretty much just tell her what you want (only useful if you already know what's wrong with you), so I will not be wasting time on her, I'll just go straight to a specialist- I have a list that my insurance accepts, but I don't know what to look for, what questions to ask, etc.

basically you want to start with why you aren't oing. You'll want CD3 labs, you'll want a full hormone panel, and you'll want an ultrasound to check for cysts.

other labs you'll want involve blood sugar.. A1C, regular glucose. Pretty much you want to know if you have PCOS and if you do are you insulin resistant on top of it.

I don't think you've ever shared a picture of yourself.. or not that my sleepy brain recalls. Describe yourself. Height, weigh.. if you're over 140lbs and under 5'6" where do you carry the weight? Any weird body hair? Any skin discolorations in body creases (neck, groin, under arms etc)?

Nope, no strange hair or skin discolorations (also, I see a dermatologist regularly because I am very fair skinned, in the sun a lot, little brother has had cancerous spots removed, & I have had a few tiny per-cancerous spots removed on my nose). I am 5' 7-1/2", currently weigh 170 lbs, carry my weight in my butt & thighs, and about 5 lbs on my belly. I am pretty active & am very strong. I am losing weight because I should be at 150-140, I was at 180 the 1st of Dec & have lost 10 lbs simply by cutting back on portion sizes. (I know that 150-140 is where I should be because that was where I was until my grandpa got sick- I started eating fast food every day while taking him to the dr) My BMI is currently 25.5

I thought that you would have painful periods if you had cysts on your ovarys?? I do not have period-related pain, other than breat soreness the 2 weeks before & very mild cramps the day before & day of. I do get tired & emotional, & my body isn't as strong (my muscles are weaker & I take that into account, taking it easier- I do a lot of lifting but nothing over 50 lbs, so when I feel weak I don't lift.), & sometimes I get a headache while PMSing. I have bright red periods that are very heavy for at least 3 days, then go to medium for at least 2 days, then light- my periods usually last exactly 7 days. Before I went on the pill, I had the same flow, but accompanied by EXCRUCIATING pain the first 1/2 day of my period. I was on the pill for over 9 years.

I was on Levora-28, 0.15 mg-30 mcg oral tabs for at least 7 of those years, and took them continuosly like you would with "Seasonale". I had 4-6 "periods" per year.

Nope, women with pcos don't always have painful periods.... since they usually have few to none of them a year due to hormonal issues.

Now people with endo do have painful periods.

Now, with you having done back to back packs, it can take a while longer to regulate since your body really has no idea what to do.

heavy periods can signal hormonal imbalances too. Mine is too much estrogen, not enough progesterone.

I'd just start with labs, and have them check for cysts just to be sure. Cysts hurt when they rupture.. but not all cysts rupture, some just go away on their own. But they def need to figure out why you're not Oing.

Thanks! I appreciate your help so much! What would be some of the next possible steps? What IS PCOS, and how is it treated? What are other fertility treatments, and what are the side effects?
