My husband and I have been TTC for about 4 months, and I have a 29 day cycle. However, this month I ovulated later than expected ( mind you, I was not temping, just using Opks and physical signs as an indicator). AF seems like it is going to arrive today or tomorrow (cramping and very light spotting) which would mean it is arriving 9-10 dpo. Is this a sign of a luteal phase defect? I have read that if it is shorter than 12 days you have a 1% chance of ever getting pregnant. I am wondering if this is something the doctor can test me for, or if they will just tell me to come back when it has been six months of TTC with no results?

A short LP is classified as the days between Ovulation and AF being 10 days or less. Shorter than normal is 11-12 days and normal 13-14.

I would not worry unless it becomes the norm. It's not uncommon for a person to have an occasional short cycle, or long cycle. The issue is when it starts to be your normal rather than an abnormal.

You can try taking extra B6 to lengthen your LP if it stays short.

And I've never heard the 1% thing before. I've heard 5% for an LP less than 10 days though.

But again, only if it continues, don't panic about one cycle.
