Hello...my husband and I just started TTC. I have no reason to worry yet, but needless to say, I am still a little concerned...my husband only has one testicle. When he was young, his other one didn't descend, and had to be surgically removed. He doesn't remember if only one didn't descend, or both, or any of the details. Everything else seems to function fine. It bothers him to talk about it, and his parents are gone, so there is no one to ask. We know about the increased cancer risks, but not much else about it. From what I understand, since he still has one functioning testicle, sperm production should be about normal....does anyone know more about this condition? Should we maybe only BD every other day, rather than every day, because of reduced sperm?

Thanks for all your help and concern!

My ex had that exact same condition, actually, it's much more common than people think. Finding out if the other testicle is decended is important. I would guess it is, or you'd REALLY notice. You should be able to feel it in the scrotum too. (And b/c of the cancer risk, he should be doing self testicle checks monthly and should be aware if it is decended or not) It shouldnt effect you ttc, assuming everything else is in working order. Its similar to women having 1 ovary...the other one conpensates. But seriously, you should make him aware of his cancer risks and he really should know about his body. The peak of risk is 18-25.

Well,

I do not have a lot of experience with this, but has he tested to see his count or motility? That would be the first thing I would do, given the circumstances you may have to have IUI, depending on his production. Hope that helps-

Nicole

Since we just started TTC, we haven't tested anything yet. I thought we would at least try for 3-6 months first and let nature take it's course. I am just a worry-wart. He has been informed of his higher risk of cancer...he is the Air Force, and every year at his flight physical, he gets to hear about it! Hopefully, everything will work out okay for us.
