I had the same concerns the last two cycles, and my nurse practitioner says that heat from a hot tub (or hot springs in our case) could damage sperm and can take anywhere from a month to three months to regenerate!! Don't know how true that is . . .

Here's how I answered someone else not too long ago! It is exactly applicable here too.

Quote:
Yep, that's true. Anything that makes the testicles hotter than they normally should be (feel them sometime ... they should be colder than the rest of the body and there's a reason for that) can harm sperm quality and maybe even decrease production. So he should wear boxers instead of briefs (briefs hold body heat near the testicles) and not sit in hot baths or hot tubs. Hot showers are ok because the testicles aren't suspended in the warm water and it doesn't last as long. They cool off pretty quick afterward.

Unfortunately it takes sperm cells between 1 and 3 months to be created and fully develop. So there's really nothing you can do about this cycle. Of course you can still get pregnant ... I doubt he's "fried" all his sperm or decreased his production by much. That is just really something to avoid if you're having other fertility problems (because why make it worse!?). But from now on he shouldn't use hot tubs much or wear briefs ... that is, if you don't conceive this cycle, that would be a good idea for future ones.

Oh, I forgot. Have him drink lots of water between now and your O. If he's fully hydrated it will be easier for him to ejaculate whatever sperm he does have (as there will be more fluid to carry it), so any sperm he's got should have a better chance. If he's dehydrated, on the other hand, he might not ejaculate as many individual sperm each time. If you want to increase your chances for next time have him eat healthier, or take a daily multivitamin (vitamins C, E, and zinc are especially important to sperm production). It couldn't hurt to try a fish oil supplement too, since essential fatty acids are important to prostate health ... just to make up for the harm this cycle, if you don't get pg.[/b]
