I know for DH and I, chances are that we will get very short notice about our little guy....for this reason, I won't really be afforded the opportunity to have a traditional baby shower.

I've been thinking of an alternative as I would still like to experience the fellowship and excitement that takes place at such an event. DH and I have decided that we will have a "Welcome Baby" party probably a month or so after Brewer comes home....hopefully he will be pretty well adjusted at that point and won't freak out with a bunch of people (we will of course play it by ear)

It will basically be a gathering where we can accept gifts for Brewer and it will give everyone an opportunity to meet him, celebrate him, and welcome him into our family.....

What are your plans? Baby shower? Welcome Baby party? ?????????

Since we are going with a newborn adoption I think we will have a "traditional" baby shower before our LO comes home. But like you, I want everyone to be able to celebrate the new addition to our family, so I might save one of them for after the baby is home and have a party after the adoption is final.

We will have an Adoption Party once everything is official. It will be a family celebration and a few close friends.

Many women who go into very early labor don't get the traditional shower, either, so I think these ideas are great substitutes!!!

A friend of mine adopted earlier this year and she was given several showers by church/work just like any other baby shower just after the baby gets here, the only unfortunate thing is you won't be able to register as easily but nothing has been easy in our situations so what's new!!
I hopefully plan to have a shower after we recieve our baby and then maybe do an adoption finalization party with close friends and family as well.

We're having our adoption/baby shower in just a couple of weeks! It's on January 16th Since ours is a bit of a different adoption situation, we know when our baby girl will be born and so the shower was talked about by friends and family before I even became pregnant. Now they're just combining the two together in order to have just one. I'm so excited for it now!
