I guess our story is different. Our only problem with infertility was that neither of us has a penis. We're a two mom family who adopted our first two daughters.
We've been together for 6 years, married for 4 years. Kids came up earlier in our dating. Angel (my wife) wanted a family. She wanted to be married and have a child. She wanted other things too (law school, and for me to calm down and organize life), but she thought I should know right up front she wanted a wife, a family. She told me she was falling in love with me, but if those were things I didn't want, she wanted to know right away. I came from a huge irish family. I wanted a kid too. Just one though. Which she readily agreed too, one would be fine. We talked about how we'd go about having said child. And I brought up the idea of adoption. I loved the idea of giving a child who needed a loving family, a loving family. She had wanted to experience pregnancy, but the more we talked aobut adoption, the more she warmed up to it. And eventually agreed that adopting a child was the right thing for us to do.
Right after we got married, we filed paperwork to adopt, we were young, we figured the chances of it happening quickly were slim to nill. But we got a phone call, a little girl needed a home, would we take her in, we said yes. She was 11 months old, we had been married for barley a year. At first we were just a temporary home, foster parents until a real home could be found. But we fell in love with her (Robyn) the minute we met her. It was obvious from the start she was our child. We just had to convince a judge. Two young barley done with college lesbians...oh yeah...this looked great for us. And at first, the judge said no. But she remaind in our care until a permenet home could be found and we were her legal gurdians. She became part of our lives, our family's lives, and it became obvious she could never leave. Eventually a judge said yes, and Robyn became ours officially.
During this time we had decided Robyn needed a sibling (so much for just one), and we had started trying to get pregnant (ok, I was trying to get Angel pregnant). It was taking much longer then we expected and we were getting frustrated. We were still willing adopt more and kept looking to adopt a second child. Eventually we got our BFP. Our baby was due Jan '09, Robyn would be three, we had started trying after she had been with us for six months, so it took a year and a half to get pregnant. We figured that'd be it. Just two and done. But then, one october morning, a few days before halloween, we got a phone call. There was a little girl, she needed a home. She would be two on halloween, could we just meet her at least. So, my rather pregnant wife and I met the little girl who would become our second child. Regan. The yin to Robyn's yang and the perfect addition to our family. Just before her third birthday we finally officially adopted her.
Now we want baby number 4, again my wife and I will try to get her pregnant, but we're looking into adopting another child. Robyn and Regan belong to our family. They are our daughters beyond a shadow of a doubt.
