I had two different adoption agencies call me yesterday so I think God might be trying to tell me something. I'm actually excited about it, not upset that I may not have a biological child. I called the one in Alabama back. They sound great. They give preference to couples who are infertile and have no children. If I happen to get pregnant while on the waiting list we could still adopt (if we are mature enough in the home study). It's a flat fee of 19,000 for the adoption which they won't ask for until you actually have a child in your arms. 300 for the application, 1500 for the home study, 50 a piece for the background check. To me it would be crazy to spend 19k on IVF for a chance when I could have a child for that. Another great thing is that they don't tell you that you have a child until the adoption is complete. There is a 5 day waiting period in Alabama where the birth mother can change her mind, no questions ask. They won't tell you that you've been matched until that 5 day period is over. That to me is the best thing!!!! I was so scared of getting attatched and then losing it. I'm going to talk to DH about us going ahead and paying the application and background check fees since it can take up to 3 months to get approved. If we decide not to adopt, it was 400 bucks. That is a lot of money but worth it to me. I don't want to wait until October and it be after the first of the year before we even get on a list. Right now the African American, andAfrican American/ Caucasian mix lists are open and the caucasian/hispanic will open in a few months. The caucasian list is closed and probably will be for a while.

Wow Paige! That is great news. We have been interviewing agencies too and it is overwhelming, so it is fabulous that you found one you liked right away.

I hope you can get DH behind you to start. With all of the paperwork it takes I think you are right to start early.
