DD's going to turn 3 in March, and since we just went to another child's birthday party yesterday dh and I have been talking about what we want to do. I was leaning towards a party at a park, but then I started thinking about going to a character breakfast at the Nick hotel here in town just for the 3 of us (well, probably my parents will want to go too). She LOVES Spongebob, Dora, etc.. I want her to get the most enjoyment out of it. My earliest memories were from around that time.

So I figured I'd turn it into a fluffy debate. Would a 3 year old get more out of the traditional party or a special breakfast? wdyt?

Oooh, I think the special breakfast would be really fun, especially if she loves the characters!

I think the special breakfast sounds fantastic too.

We usually do a party at the park or a day at the zoo.

Why don't you ask her which she would prefer?

Special breakfast.

I'll be honest, I think under school-age, the "friend" party is really more for mom and dad and grandparents.

We took DS to a lake for his birhtday last year, just me and DH. He loved it! He had the best day, no one was cranky and worn out by the end of it, there was no mess to clean up, and none of my friends felt irritated about having to go to another birthday party that required a present... win-win!

lol.. I did. Her response? "Park!......Dora, Spongebob!"

I'm leaning towards the breakfast, myself. Last year we invited friends to our place, cleaned the house, got the food ready, etc.. and she fell off her swing and broke her arm 30 minutes into the party.

On the other hand, we took her to see Santa and despite all our preparations she did NOT want to go near him. I guess with the breakfast though she doesn't have to interact with the characters but can watch them from a distance.

Poor thing breaking her arm on her birthday, that's so not fair!

I love the breakfast idea and it sounds like she's pretty excited about going too.
