I'm asking here first, just because I'm not sure when I will remember to sit down and call the medicaid office... but I think a few of you here might be able to answer some of my questions...

Well Lily was approved for the Free and Reduced lunch program at her school. With my student status, my Mom on medicaid and disability, we were approved immediately. I finally got the letter with her acceptance (it was sent to the wrong address, so I've been putting money in her lunch account not knowing we were approved) and it mentioned that students of free and reduced lunch may be eligible for medicaid or CHP+. That's awesome, because we don't have insurance for Lily. We pay out of pocket for her healthcare, I'm not too worried about insurance for myself but would like Lily to have insurance.

Well the part I am wondering about is if Lily is on medicaid if they will try to contact her biological father for any support questions or anything. I do NOT want him contacted. I had to write a letter to the YMCA to get her childcare reduced without going through the state program for reduced childcare. The papers we were given talked about wanting both parents financial situations and to apply for some state program (name is slipping me at the moment) that might get back to Matt, so the letter to them had our childcare approved without putting her name into a system where it might get back to Matt.

So has anyone had any experience with medicaid or CHP? If they do require me to contact Matt then I am going to forget it and not go for it at all. I don't know how it works when he is on the birth certificate and there is no statement saying I pay for all financial obligations. Just want to get a general idea, or experience, before I call them. I am hoping to call them tomorrow but there's a good chance I'll forget with studying

Thanks!

Here in NYC when I had my teen on it, I never had to contact her father for anything. If you have any sort of court papers stating that he has no rights to her, assuming he doesn't, then you should provide them. The only time they required the fathers information from what I recall is if I wanted the full welfare package, not just the CHP. But it's always good to call the main office and find out for sure from the horses mouth.

Yeah don't need welfare, would just like her on some kind of insurance until I am done with school and can get her on a different insurance.

I don't have any papers stating he has no rights though, technically we have no custody agreement (I really need to get his rights taken away, but it's such a PITA process)

Oh well, I'll see what I can do tomorrow. Was way too busy to remember today, and hopefully I don't forget tomorrow but Lily has a race at school tomorrow, so hopefully I remember after going to that, lol.

I used to wait tables with a girl who (when we were talking about child support) said she had medicaid for her kid but signed something saying that she didn't want them going after him for the money. She never made him pay child support, and she didn't want them going after him either. (I think he was abusive and she just wanted to stay away from him. She didn't say that, but that was the impression I got)
