I am at my wits end with my migraines. I've been to specialists, been on different meds, tried diet and lifestyle changes... and my migraines seem to get worse with every single bad one I have. They are getting more frequent too.

Yesterday I started to get a headache at about 3. Just a slight one, it had no signs of turning into a migraine. At about 5, it went from slight to excruciating in about 10 minutes. I took my imitrex and tried to go to sleep. At 6, I had no relief so I took a second imitrex. All it did was make me feel very heavy and kind of "out of body" feeling. No relief at all. I laid down and was cycling ice packs on my head. I had also taken a vicodin, it didn't do anything. I finally started to cry it was hurting so bad, and I've had some killer headaches but I think this truly topped them all. We called the non emergency number to a hospital and asked if I could mix percocet with the imitrex, or if I should go in. They told me to take a percocet and take another in half an hour so I didn't feel sick when taking it. The first percocet took the edge off, the second finally knocked out the pain. I was so drugged by that point though that I couldn't really handle moving. I hadn't eaten since the morning, but ate a banana just to settle my stomach. I slept like crap and felt hungover all day (I read that this could be the imitrex). I slept on and off all day, and finally my headache is 99% gone.

But holy **** man... I am at my wits end with these headaches and no answer as to what is causing them. I usually love the imitrex because it knocks the pain out, but it didnt help at all yesterday.

I didn't even know it was possible to hurt that bad, it seriously hurt to freaking breathe

Yea I had migraine like headaches that weren't real migraines. Turns out I was having muscle spasms in my neck because there is arthritis there and the pain was radiating up.
Instead of just telling your doctor how you feel, you really need a thorough examination. I went 6 years not knowing it was arthritis, until I got desperate and went to a pain management specialist who ordered an MRI. Now that I know what it is, I take one little anti inflammatory pill a day.

Of course, yours might not be arthritis either. But there are many reasons to have severe headaches besides migraines. Tell your doctor you want answers. If the migraine medicine is not working, you're not having a migraine headache.

I've had tons of tests. CT scans, MRI's, seen a neurologist, even had a spinal tap. All we know is it stems from bells palsy and it has never gotten better since my last episode. Every test seems to come back normal. We have tried diet changes, sleep changes, I took a semester off school to just rest and recover, I've tried numerous medications, my life has been one big headache, literally.

That was the first time the imitrex didn't work. Usually they do, typically within half an hour the pain is knocked out and I either go to sleep or lay down to rest away the effects of the imitrex (because it makes me feel like crap). This time it was just to the point of me drugging myself up as much as I could to try to get the pain away. My god that pain was seriously unreal

I'm sorry, that has to suck. I've got no advice but hope they can get it under control for you soon.

I get bad migraines but no where near what it sounds like have. I do know that if I even get a twinge of a throbbing/ache, I have to take my meds asap or they won't get rid of it.

Hope you feel better.
