So I was at the gyno-roo today having my pre-op exams, and I brought up the subject I was dreading. It didn't go in my favor.
I told him about how I'm working to help make midwifery legal in Georgia for home births and stuff. I told him it would be a good business opportunity if they could hire midwives and allow delivery "in the field." Possibly literally! lol
But he said his opinions on midwives and home birth was solidified when he was in his residency in Tennessee and midwives and home births are legal. He said he saw too many catastrophes transferred to the hospital that started off as a Bradley home birth. I tried to blow it off like the Bradley method is silly and that wasn't the big picture. What else could I say? I finished up my little defeated side of my case and said "hey it's something to think about anyway."
OMG, am I never going to be able to get a doctor on board? If I could just get ONE obstetrician to say the world won't end with midwives practicing home births this would have a real shot at passing. I didn't want to get into a huge debate with him like I would here, but his argument is SO weak. That would be like me saying cars shouldn't be legal because as an EMT I only dealt with cars after they mangled human bodies. Sometimes things go wrong and it's not the fault of the mother laboring at home!
I haven't even started typing my presentation yet (I've got a state senator in favor of this but he's not the one who would have to handle this, I'm going to have to take it to someone else too) and I already feel defeated. I really NEED a doctor to back me up. This always gets smacked down by the doctors and it's just because they don't want to lose money.
