I love... LOVE Lilys school. Minus a few annoyances, her school is absolutely fantastic.

That being said, her 1st grade teacher is quite young. She's sweet, great with the kids, and has really, really pushed Lily to rise above the class. She has classroom helpers individually work with Lily and a couple others as they are above the class. This makes me really happy, because I don't want Lily left behind when she is advanced.

But my gosh, she is so bad at responding to calls/letters! I have sent two letters in the past week asking if I could volunteer for the class trip tomorrow. No response! I was expecting at least something answered today, but alas... nothing.

I am packing my lunch and bag as if I am going, and bringing the dues for the trip. I will be a very ticked off Momma if I show up and Lily is let down by me not being able to go. I would think they would want extra volunteers and I usually am asked (in fact, she usually comes to us first with volunteer opportunities, and asking if we could donate snacks). But when I approach her it takes her forever to answer my questions!

Grrr... just had to vent. I just don't want Lily to be let down tomorrow!

that's awful. It only takes 30 seconds to reply to a letter!

Unfortunately it appears to be common place among many young teachers who teach younger grades. I've heard a couple people complain recently about it around me, and it makes me sad.

Yeah, a really quick "Sorry, we have enough volunteers" or heck, even telling Lily! Would be fine. But nothing at all. She's done a few things like this where I just don't hear back in a timely manner. I understand not the next day, or even the day after... the end of the year is busy. But over a week, and 2 letters? Sorry that's not excusable!

Well I guess we will see how tomorrow goes. Our bags are packed together, and the paper says all 1st grade classes are going so I'm sure they will need volunteers, but if they already have positions filled I will probably just drive there myself and meet up with them. I would feel bad to let Lily down (though its not my fault). We shall see **crosses fingers**

since I haven't seen you all day I hope that's because you got to go on the field trip and not because you knocked some sense into the teacher and got in trouble

Oh what a day!

I called this morning, and her teacher apologized for not getting back to me. I had already packed our lunch and everything, but she said there were tons of volunteers and they didnt need any extra. I tell Lily this, and you can see she tried to not be upset. I then thought it was really unfair to Lily to get ready, pack a lunch with me, wait all week, and expect her Mommy to go and not go. So I told her I would meet them at the zoo because I am not going to let her down when this wasn't my fault.

So I call her teacher back, and said I would just meet them at the zoo.

I go, get a subway sandwich for Lily and I to share, and ensure her I will meet her at the zoo. I get to the zoo and it's POURING rain. I am waiting and waiting for her bus and don't see her. I call the school, they said they were already inside the zoo. OH ****! I was then panicking because I had no idea how we missed her, and two, I have Lily's lunch. The zoo is huge and I had no idea how I would find her. We are then told that they are not inside. We are getting conflicting reports, and I am nearly in a panic because I wanted to know where she was. The zoo starts turning people away due to the weather, and diverting buses to the museum. Her teacher called me and said that they hadnt gone to the zoo, they were going to the museum instead due to the rain. I drove there, saw them drive up, and met with a very nervous child, lol. She does NOT deal well with plans changing, and she was worried I wouldn't find her.

So we walk around the museum, and after the chaos of the rain and checking in, we had an hour to walk the museum, and have lunch. That was hardly enough time to enjoy even one exhibit We got through 3, but it was chaos and we couldn't really read everything and enjoy it. I was tempted to just sign her out and walk through it with her myself, but they had school the rest of the day and I couldn't justify her doing that.

So this weekend we are going to have a nice family day with Tony and Wesley, and go to the zoo or the museum ourselves and take our time. It was such a hectic day, and I feel bad that all the school trips were changed. Stupid weather! It was fun while it lasted though At least, after I found her and actually got started, lol!

Aww I'm sorry things didn't work out the way you'd hoped, but I'm sure Lily will love the trip this weekend with the family! At least that way you'll be able to take all the time in the world to look at things!

Yeah, Im looking forward to it. There were a lot of neat things to see, just not enough time. She wants to go to the aquarium too, she was so intent on seeing the fish at the zoo (I didnt even know she was that interested in the fish, to be honest) but apparently really was looking forward to it. We will make up for it

They are so fun! They can be stinky, but fun

I went to the zoo when pregnant, that was tough because of the smells. But I still had fun

She never responded, but Lily wasn't too upset. We have field day tomorrow, which makes up for today

So maybe I have the real reason why she's been kind of off and not responding...

Today we had field day and we were discussing the school, changes to teachers and grades they teach, etc...

Apparently the budget cuts meant a few teachers were lost in the school. It was between Lily's current teacher, and her kindergarten teacher. Her kindergarten teacher has a Masters degree, so they cut her current teacher as she only has a bachelors. Which yeah, losing your job sucks. I do think she has slacked off because she isnt coming back next year. But all was well today, which was nice. We had a fun field day and Lily had a nice time
