So Lily in fact might be my last child.

I have the mirena, which I have had about 4 months now. About oh... 2 months ago I started to get pains in my uterus. I think I posted about it here. Wondering it it was ectopic, embedded, infection, something like that. Went to the doctor, got an ultrasound... everything looked fine. Doc said it might be the hormones or just me getting used to an IUD. Said it can take up to 6 months for some girls to get used to an IUD.

Well the past 2 months have REALLY sucked, especially the past month. The past 2 weeks I've had to take the percocet prescribed for my head pain, for my cramping and such. I've had no pregnancy symptoms so I wasn't worried about an ectopic. I made an appointment today since I was seeing my doctor for my headaches. I am on a drug contract since I am prescribed daily pain meds, so I wanted to be careful and let my doctor and OBGYN know that my pain is severe enough to warrant percocet and need a refill, but technically I am not supposed to use my meds for any other pain other than headaches. But the pain is just that bad. So yeah... it sucks.

So I go into the ultrasound, and my polyps aren't back (which is good, I dealt with that last year and needed surgery) but now and dealing with cysts which are filling with blood and bursting again, over and over. This is also messing with my hormones, which is messing with my moods. This explains why I have my "period" every other week. The cysts are pretty big on my left side, not as big on the right. Its no wonder I am in pain, but my doctor isn't wanting to jump to surgery yet. He wants to wait a bit and see if they fix on their own, which he said usually the body does take care of them on their own. But sometimes they dont, and they do require surgery to fix. I have some fibroids, which I knew about, which can also cause pain.

The risk with the cysts is that they can burst and cause hemorrhaging. They can also really mess up my ovaries. I am worried that if I have the surgery... whats the risk of this just coming back? So if I do have the surgery... well... I might just have them take out my ovaries and be done with my baby making. Tony doesnt want any more kids, but again, we aren't even married or engaged. I'm not making this a decision on HIM. But he doesn't want this to be a procedure that I need to go back and have done again or something that I am in pain all the time. I am in a lot of pain... I mean I am taking percocet throughout the day because this hurts so **** bad.

So am I done? Maybe. I just dont know. I dont want to be done, I really dont, but Im facing the reality that at my next check up, if this cyst is bigger, my doctor is going to go with the surgery route. Which will mean I need to make some big decisions.

This sucks. At least I have answers though. Last time I was in pain and nothing showed on the ultrasound, this time at least something is showing and they can definitely say that they understand I am in a lot of pain.

Thank you Miss And to top it all off, I wake up today with the flu. ICK! It's definitely not helping my stomach to take pain pills, ugh, lol. No fun, that's for sure!

I'm so sorry hun.

Did you have cysts like this before the IUD? I did a quick google (since Mirena isn't something I've researched) and it looks like surgery requiring cysts are on the side effects list. I'm surprised your doc's first suggestion wasn't to take it out!

Good luck in your decision. It's not one that anyone could easily make, and I hope in the end you find peace with the choice.

I had the fibroids before (which have gotten a little bigger) but not the cysts. I do know the cysts are a side effect, but he doesnt believe the are from the mirena. We have TONS of uterine problems in my family. The reason I needed the mirena was to keep away uterine polyps which needed surgery, so it needed pro's and con's, ya know? Cysts like these aren't typical of the mirena, its normally a different type from what he said. It's similar to what kind of polyps I was getting before, what required me to get mirena in the first place. Without the mirena, they would be a lot worse and I would probably require surgery again, and be in a whole lot of trouble like I was last year. I was really, really sick with how much blood loss I had with the polyps. He assured me without the mirena, I would be in a lot more trouble than I am. So even if mirena is somewhat causing the cysts, without it, I would be in even more trouble.

It sucks, and I hate that I've had so much problems with my uterus. I've known since I was 12 that my uterus is not so great. I wanted to take the mirena out but he thinks it would be a bad choice because it would just land me in the hospital requiring surgery with polyps again, or a for sure hysterectomy. I may need surgery, but at least mirena is putting it off. We will just have to see how the growth is in a month or two.

Although last night I was starting to get in a super horrible mood, and thought "Yup... my hormones are DEFINITELY spiking" and I feel like I am on edge. I dont know if it is just from the fact that I am just dealing with this news, or if I really am having a spike of hormones, but I am absolutely on edge and feel like I have some kind of spiking of hormones. Or it could be that I am sick and just don't feel good, lol. Blah! lol

You poor thing! I hope you start to feel a bit better.

I hear you on the family uterine problems. I've not had as many problems as everyone else has by my age, but enough to give me some worries about the future. I hope I'll be like my one aunt who had no problems.... my mom was fully through menopause by 32

Yesterday I had a procedure to drain the cysts. Holy hell, that freaking HURT. The biggest cyst was drained, but the other side couldn't be drained. They poked me 4 or 5 times and I couldn't handle the pain. I was shaking from the pain and nearly in tears and so my doctor wants to see if after one more menstrual period if the cyst gets bigger or smaller. If it gets bigger... Ill have to have it drained again. If it eludes the needle like it did this time... it will mean having actual surgery. If it gets smaller, then I won't need the procedure as long as my pain is okay. I am super sore right now though. I seriously was in so much pain, my doctor only stopped because he couldn't get to the cyst and he could tell that I just couldn't handle another poke.

Blah! So today I am super sore, on my pain meds, and just taking it easy. I did read two Young Adult books though that are really good, so that's good! Onto the third one I borrowed from the library... I figure I need to catch up on some reading before student teaching, lol!
