Hello Everyone,
I am new to this whole site. Umm...basically I am here looking for some support and help from people who are in similar situations as I am. I have been trying to concieve my first child now for 10 months and am starting to get a little worried. I guess I am not sure where to go from here. We have our first Dr. Appt. on Monday to meet with a fertility specialist. I am TERRIFIED!!! I have no idea what to expect. Does anyone have any advice or experiences to calm my nerves? Is anyone else having or has had similar experiences? Please respond, I am really just looking for some friends to share my experiences with.

Thanks!

Hi Alicia~

I've seen a Fertility doc....
He went over our family history, medical history, personal history. Just asking questions about sex life and TTC stuff. I took my charts with me so he could see my cycles first hand. Then he discussed what needs to happen to get pregnant and what female infertility problems and male infertility problems there are. Not saying that's what we had, but just what each was. THen he ordered for a semen anaylsis and bloodwork for me. If we had insurance he would have done more extensive testing, but he only did the basics. Hope this helps some
Good luck

Thank you so much for the answers. So basically I should just expect the first visit to be alot of just getting to know our situation and what we may go through and what not?

Thanks again!

I already answered on the TTC #1 board, but like Linsey said the first visit is just to figure out what tests and things need to be done to rule out problems that fit your situation. Mine ordered a SA for DH (it came back low count and motility, but not zero) and I have other tests set up on certain cycle days. I have long irregular cycles so my doctor started me on clomid to make ovulation more predictable so we can get bloodwork on the right days. This cycle I am going to have a progesterone level checked on CD24. At some point I will have a fasting insuling level done to look for insulin resistance (I don't have any signs of it, but it runs in my family) and then next cycle I will have an HSG.

The results of those tests will help us decide the next step, IUI, urologist for DH to see if anything can be done. Meds to fix/help any problems I might have. Who knows.

Good luck on your visit, hope it is all good new and you get a plan worked out to give you answers.

Welcome,I havent been to a fertility specialist yet,but i dont think it will be long as we will have been TTC for a year in July.
Dont worry about your appointment ,you'll probably find the Dr very friendly and helpful, then you'll wonder what you were anxious about.
Good Luck xxx
