My dad is in the hospital He's been having a lot of heart problems lately and is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday. He has a congenital defect in his heart that no one found until he was in his mid 60's and needed surgery for something else. They put a pacemaker in at that time. The pacemaker has been working overtime lately, so he was supposed to have an ablation next week. That's where they feed a wire through your leg and basically cauterize part of your heart that's causing problems.
He had a really bad night last night and his cardiologist told him to go to the ER. He spent 4 hours in the ER and then they admitted him. He'll probably have to stay overnight. I'm scared and hate that my daddy is getting older. He's in amazing shape and doesn't look his age, but his body is slowly slowing down and it's sad.

Thanks gals. I'm worried and thought about going there, but there's nothing I can do today. I'd rather go tomorrow if need be if they find something really wrong.

I am sorry. I know it is so hard dealing with our parents starting to age. I hope everything turns out good and he can get the surgery he needs. Hopefully once they have his heart working closer to normal he will even perk back up from his slow down over the last few years.

Thanks everyone.
My dad's still at the hospital. He has to stay there tonight. They've run a million tests and still aren't sure exactly what's wrong. They're going to do a catscan of his lungs tonight to see if he has a clot. They want to rule that out before doing anything more invasive. He's feeling much better, but wants to know what's going on before leaving and having another episode. If the docs don't find anything in his lungs, they'll do an angiogram tomorrow.

No new news, but my niece was playing with my sister's cell phone this morning and called me at 5:15. I was terrified something was really wrong My sister hung up right away, but it has woken me up, so I called back.

My dad's home He's feeling much better, but is tired. The docs think he had a viral infection that enlarged the area around his heart. That's why he was so uncomfortable. Looks like things are going to clear up though. They looked inside his heart and said it's in great shape for someone his age. Very little plaque and the one artery they unofficially call the "widow maker" looks awesome. He'll still have his procedure next week to correct the electrical impulses. Hopefully after that he'll be all back to normal
Thanks everyone for your T&Ps
