I went to see my doctor today for my annual pap. I really love my doctor even though I've only seen her a few times. She's not all emotional and crap, she's straight to business, the way I like it. She looked over my charts and had some very nice things to say about my completely messed up cycle in December. The first thing she said was "Wow, that's ugly" My other charts don't look so bad and she commented on one or two of them as well, but she is worried about my progesterone level. She gave me the option to get a prescription for clomid, but I told her I wanted to hold off, she thought that was a good idea.
Instead of getting clomid, I'm sending DH in for an SA and I'm having my progesterone level, thyroid and something else checked. I can't remember the third thing as we talked forever. Based on the results of those things we'll decide what to do. She explained the range of normal progesterone, but said that she likes a different range for someone who's trying to get pregnant. She stated that at least one of my tubes is open and some of DH's swimmers work (not her words) since we did get pregnant once.
She hopes that clomid would not only produce a better egg and corpus luteum, but that it would also shorten my cycles a bit. I'm sick of super long cycles while ttc.
I'm excited to start moving things along

Thanks gals!
I probably should have done some research on Clomid before going to the appointment, but I didn't. I came home, quit work a few minutes early and started carousing the Internet. I wanted to know the history of Clomid, how long it's been used, side effects, chances of birth defects on it etc. I want a baby, but I also want the baby and myself to be healthy. I don't want to take something that could potentially hard either of us in the long run. I feel much better once I read that Clomid has been used for 30 years. There have been too many drugs used in the past that seemed ok at the time and later it was found that had an effect on the baby that was conceived because of them. I couldn't find anything about Clomid being the cause of birth defects or any lasting effects on a baby. I have also heard that fertility drugs can cause ovarian cancer if used too long. Most of the medical documentation I found states that a lot of the cancers seem to be caused by infertility and not the use of Clomid to treat the infertility. I feel much better now.
I think I can make a wiser decision on what to do with the information I found. I may read some layperson info on Clomid, but what I really wanted was the medical mumbo jumbo on it.

Wow! Sounds like you found some great research about Clomid! I'm glad your appointment went well and that you're working towards that BFP! I hope that you and your Doctor can get you that BFP quickly!

Congrats on the good appointment. I did some of that same research on clomid. I did it with the pills in hand though. My doc put me on them to "make ovulation more predictable" basically shorten my cycle. I guess it worked since I am sure I Oed on CD 16 and that is my fastest O yet. Good luck on the rest of the testing, I hope any problem you find is fixable.

Good luck Chickie. I'd ask about getting an HSG done too, that cleans everything out and you can ensure what the status of your tubes, etc is.
I did much the same research before starting Clomid as I had similar concerns, and I am glad now to at least have a chance with it.

I'm glad the appt went so well. I hope all the test come back good. I'm glad to know all that about Clomid, too. I've always been kind of worried about it. My dh doesn't want to go that far though. We'll see if it comes to that. G/L to you

Thanks everyone.
I don't think I'll be asking to have an HSG any time soon. My doc and I both agree that at least one tube is open since I was pregnant once. I don't think that's our issue. I don't want to do any unnecessary procedures. In doing research, it's my personal opinion that a lot of docs do an HSG when it's not necessary.

I'm glad you had a good appointment!
I don't blame you for wanting to get some things checked out before you procede to Clomid. That's why I'd like to get a SA for Dh before doing any drugs myself. No point fixing me when it could be him, ya know? Especially when they don't recommend that you do Clomid for too many cycles.

Glad to hear your appt went great!! Hopefully everything comes out OK. And good luck with the SA. I'm going to get that done if I don't get a bfp this cycle.

If I'm having a normal cycle, it's usually around 36 days. I have cycles up to 60 days a few times a year.
