I think it went pretty good. He spent a good 30 minutes with us
He ordered an HSG for me. Which sounds painful. Has anyone ever had one? Whats it like? The thing about it that sucks is that no one in town had an opening this week so i have to wait until next month I guess it's good that i am starting with all this stuff now before i hit the year mark of ttc.
They also ordered a semen analysis for my husband. He is doing that on Monday.
He didn't do an exam or anything though. He told me that an internal ultrasound would be a waste of time because they will find out so much more from and HSG test. He didn't order blood work either. He also said i don't need Clomid because he can tell by my cycles that i o every month. He said he would have us pregnant by the 4th of July!!
What do you think? Please be honest.

I can't be much help because I have not gone to a RE yet but it am glad that he sounds so hopeful. Sounds like you found a good doctor. I hope all goes yet with the HSG and SA. Keep us posted.

interesting......Glad you're having an HSG and SA. I find it weird him not doing B/W and saying you don't need meds. Hey look at me, all I needed was a boost with Femara and I'm pregnant. Everything else with us was normal BW, SA, I o'd on my own. Good luck Jamie! Hope you get some exact answers from everything!

And 30 mintues that's a lil short too. I think our appt was almost an hour going over everything. Everyone's different though so who knows?~? Yea that sounds like a good plan girl. Nope I didn't have an HSG, because we don't have insurance, the doc was being compassionate and doing tests the cheap and easy way, if not progress and bad results then he wouldn't go to the expensiver tests. I've heard it's a lil painful but take tylenol/advil before and it's like cramping for a day or something. I still can't believe he didn't order BW, that was the first thing mine did. usually you go on CD 3 and then again 7DPO.

Don't be too worried, wasn't trying to scare ya, I just find that a lil weird IMO. I have heard though that after an HSG test you are more fertile cause it like cleans ya out

Wow, that is really surprising he thought an ultrasound would be a waste of time. I haven't even had an HSG yet (I get mine next week), and from my ultrasound and bloodwork I was able to be diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroidism, and start meds for both of those so they are being treated in the meantime.
I also don't like how he told you an HSG hurts really bad. I know a ton of girls on here who have had them, and while it hurts for some women, it isn't a general rule! My doc gave me precise instructions for mine so that it is less painful/painless including drinking a lot of water and taking ibuprofen. He also gave me a script for Valium for the procedure. Did your RE do any of that?

I had my HSG last week. It was uncomfortable, and I felt a little cramping while she was actually injecting the dye, but after that it was fine. No more pain or cramping. I forgot to take a tylenol or anything before hand, but I didn't need it. She told me a little spotting afterwards was normal but real bleeding was abnormal. I was also told that the dye will sometimes leak out. I took a pad with me to wear afterwards, but I didn't have any spotting, bleeding, or dye leakage. The radiology tech asked me several times if I was in any pain afterwards and kept saying if i had any real pain through the day that was abnormal. The whole procedure took 15 minutes. I have been told the only time it really hurts (by some people on here and my aunt who had one 15-20 years ago) when you have a blocked tube and they try to unblock it.

My doctor specifically told me and DH that when it was done. I could hear the radiology tech talking to DH while I was getting dressed about "Well, you know what you need to do now. Just not today, wait until tomorrow to get started."

I had an ultrasound last June before i started ttc. It was fine then so i guess he thinks that there is a good chance nothing has changed. I even called him back a few minutes ago and asked him about it and he said i didn't need one.
I hope it doesn't hurt bad. He didn't do anything for me. He didn't even tell me to take ibuprofen. Should i call him back and ask him about it?

If you are worried I would call, but it really didn't hurt that bad at all. He might have told you it would to prepare you for the worst, because if I tube is blocked, that is what I am told hurts so bad. If you are sensitive to pain you might take some OTC pain med before hand, or if you are really tense maybe call and ask for something like valium. I had to go straight to work afterwards, so I wouldn't have taken that even if my doctor had prescribed it for me. Mine did have me take antibiotics the day of and day after, but I know that many doctors don't do that.
I wouldn't give up on your doctor yet. Believe me, all doctors are different and have different methods. Just because it is different doesn't mean it is wrong. One thing that becomes very obvious over time, is that if there are TONS of ways to do something, then NONE of them are the perfect method.

Only thing I can think of is that maybe he figures you just have a blocked tube the HSG will fix and that is why he told you it would hurt a lot, or maybe he figures you will take it one step at a time. Either way, he is doing something so that is good! Carmen is right that every RE has a different style and order they like to do things in. The important part is that he gets you pregnant!
And the Valium for the HSG isn't for emotional nerves (although I imagine it helps!). It is for the uterus itself. Valium is a muscle relaxant and the uterus is a muscle. So the Valium helps prevent strong uterine contractions some women get with an HSG. But a lot of women on here like Carmen have it done with no pain meds before hand whatsoever and are fine. It is like menstrual cramps. You can't control how hard your uterus will contract, ya know? Some women have a skilled technician performing it and are fine. Others not so much. But either way it won't last long

Thanks so much for explaining it to me!! I feel a little better about it now. I wish i could go to the same person you did. I just hope i don't get someone who sucks at it and it hurts me. I also hope i don't have a blocked tube.

Thanks again for the advice I just want to make sure i am doing all i can to get pregnant and that i have a good dcotor to help me out with that. I appreciate your advice and you are right.
Wow i can't believe you went to work after that. I guess my doctor made it sound worse then it is. I might ask him about the antibiotics and valium though.

Ok that makes sense about the valium. I hope i get a skilled technician Let me know how your hsg test goes!!
Do you think it's weird that he blew off the idea of clomid?

My doctor actually did the HSG, not a tech. The radiology tech was only running the fluoroscopy machine.
As far as the clomid, with regular cycles he might just want to see if there are any structural abnormalities first, before he starts giving you drugs that will mess with your hormones.
I am just guessing though.

My doc is doing the HSG too. Maybe it is less painful in those cases?

I think doctors are probably going to have different beliefs and ideas about what to do first, etc. Maybe your Dr wants to do the HSG first to make sure there's no blockage. And doing your Dh's SA too. If the sperm are the problem maybe he thinks there's no point putting you on meds, know what I mean?
Don't feel bad about asking him questions and about being your own advocate. If you feel really strongly about something, like having bloodwork done, then I'd ask again. My dr didn't think bloodwork was necessary, but she is doing it for me.
My OB is also wanting to put me on Femara although I am already ovulating. I think maybe different doctors have different philosophies about what is or isn't helpful.
Oh and I haven't had one, but I've heard the HSGs aren't too bad, especially if you take motrin or something beforehand.

I had my HSG a week ago, and it was more uncofortable than painful. There were only two parts that hurt, the inital threading of the catheter into my cervix, and that was over in a minute(it felt like when they check your ovaries from the inside and outside during your yearly), and then when they clamped the catheter into place. Take some motrin beforehand and you should be fine. It was honestly a lot more uncomfortable than anything. I was scared out of my mind too. It was very cool to see my uterus and tubes on the fluoroscope though! And I was also told by my doc to BD every day for the next ten days starting the next day because you are very fertile after the HSG(cleans everything out) and for the following 2-3 cycles because it was a fresh start. Good luck chickie!

My doctor is sending me to a lab to have the hsg test done. I wish he was doing it.

I am sure it is less painful to have a DR. do it. To bad i have to go to a lab to have it done.

Thanks for the advice
Your Doctor sounds like mine. Which is good to know that there are other docotrs out there who do things the same way. Did your DR. order you a pelvic ultrasound? That is one thing i really want because i am so sure i have endo.
