Hi all!

Okay, I am just at my wits end here with trying to bring on AF. I am looking for someone to tell me what they'd do if they were me. Here are the stats:

Today is CD57
I took 8days 10mg progesterone
Then I took 3days 20mg progesterone (Was spotting each day)

That didn't start AF so the advice nurse at my OB told me to stop taking them because maybe my progesterone levels were too high... (I swear I was telling her what to do next not vise versa)

It's been three days and still nothing. (Spotting has stopped) How long does it normally take for AF on this type of treatment? I would call to my OB again, but I am doubting the advice I am getting from the advice nurse.

I am so dang frustrated! As soon as AF gets here, I will be able to try Clomid for the first time. What do I do ladies??

Unfortunatley, I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to tell you that I'm thinking about you and hope AF arrives for you! Are you sure you're not pregnant?

Thank you so much! yeah, I have taken a HPT. I have an annovulatory cycle right now. Pretty sure I haven't O'd since stopping BC back in August. Hopefully AF will arrive soon, so I can try the Clomid. Thanks for showing concern.

I've got nothing either. I've had longer cycles than that, but haven't used anything to make AF finally show. Each time I got frustrated enough to do something about it and called my doc, she would show. Sorry i can't help.

Hey girl, I've done all different kinds of Provera but they all worked for me so I'm not sure what to tell you. AF always came within 8-10 days after the last pill. I typically have 59+ day cycles and I'm anovulatory. Since last Aug 2007 i've taken Provera 6 times to bring on AF.

I've taken 10mg 1x/day for 10 days, 2x/day for 5 days, 1x/day for 7 days. How long after the 8days did you wait before starting the 20mg tabs?? Perhaps you spotted because AF was on her way but then you introduced more Progesteron (via the Provera) which made her stop coming, hence the spotting you experienced. Did you give the first round of Provera at least 10-12 days before starting the 20mg tabs for 3 days??? If you didn't I think maybe the doctor jumped the gun. I've read 2-12 days can be normal for AF to arrive after stopping the Provera.

Hope that helps.

Okay...that makes sense. My docter actually only prescribed me 10mg 1x a day for 10 days. That's it. Just for the sole purpose of starting AF. He thought for sure that would be enough to bring on AF. (Which worked once before). But yeah, I think the advice nurse jumped the gun. See, I am new at this, and I had no idea that the progesterone could bring on AF AFTER the prescription ended. The first time I tried the progesterone AF came on day 8 of my pill so I didn't even have to think about it. This time on day 8 I still had no signs, so I called my docter and got the advice nurse. She told me to double up the doses. Then I found this forum, and I think it was Babybird that told me that sometimes AF doesn't show up until after the progesterone.... So now I am not taking it (advice nurse confirmed that), but still no AF. I have no idea what to do. I guess I will call my OB tomorrow. Thank you so much for that. It really confirmed a lot of what I was feeling. I guess I still don't really know what to do next though other then just wait it out...

I'm glad to help. I have naturally low Progesterone levels - 0.6

Provera is a synthetic Progesterone. What happens "normally" is a woman...

1. Ovulates - this leaves behind the corpus luteum which produces progesterone
2. If the egg is fertilized, the corpus luteum / embryo produces progesteron thus maintaining the levels which is why a pregnant woman misses her period.
3. If the egg is NOT fertilized, your PROGESTERONE LEVELS from the corpus luteum will dip / drop off and it's THAT drop in progesterone levels that signals your body to bleed / have a period and shed your uterine lining.

For girls who are anovulatory and don't have periods - the Provera boosts our system with Progesterone and when we stop the pills then obviously, the Progesterone levels drop off and it signals our body to have a period.

Does that make sense? I hope I explained it well. I think if you hadn't taken more Provera after day 8 your period would have probably showed. How many days since you finished the 20mg tabs?? I would give it 15 days at least and then maybe talk to your doctor. You can also find alot of good info and experience from others who have taken provera at askapatient - http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?...mp;name=PROVERA

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you!! Yes, you explained things perfectly! I assume that in a week or so AF should show. I will wait it out! Now, my only dilemma is why my Doctor didn't explain that to me... HUF! lol. Thanks! I will definitely keep you posted. I certainly never thought I would want AF to show so badly! lol.

Hey girl! I'm totally with you on long cycles and wanting to have AF show. You shoud check out some of my early charts! Lordy they were LOOOOONG! I felt like the Provera queen this past year with as much as I took it. I will say this though, I'm really glad I started taking it and got more control of my cycles with the RE. He laughed at me at our first appt and said I could teach a class. LOL! I find it all very fascinating and I've learned so much on JM. Keep us posted on when AF shows! I'm sure she will be here before long and then you have the goal of a fresh start with a new cycle!

I was looking at your chart. Have you always had long cycles? I wish I had seen an RE sooner vs. waiting out those long cycles I had last year. Oi! I probably would have started the Clomid sooner (even though it didn't work for me) and then on to the Femara sooner (it did work for me). I wasn't sure if your doctor had done all the preliminary bloodwork & testing - thyroid, prolactin, CD3 LH & FSH, Estradiol (for checking ovarian reserve), CD21 Progesterone levels, HSG test etc.

Good luck sweetie! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers!

I'd jsut wait it out now and call your doc and ONLY go with the docs advice if you are 2 weeks past the last progesterone and no AF. I never got a true AF with my last dose of Provera(3 or 4 times done now, lol) but AF has enver showed during the provera, only after.
