I got my blood drawn today for my bloodwork and the order for Dh's SA! He'll probably go do that next Tuesday, we still have to set up the appointment and figure out if he's going to do it at home or do it up there.

I talked for quite awhile to the woman at the RE's office (the place where the SA is getting done). She was telling me that in a few months I might want to think about going there and getting ultrasound monitoring done to make sure I don't have a cyst. Also she mentioned an HSG. So that was pretty cool and that might be the next step if a couple cycles of Femara don't do the trick.

I guess my OB doesn't think the ultrasounds or HSG are needed right now, but apparently she has referred patients to this RE's office before.

I can't wait to get results on my bloodwork and Dh's yet-to-be-done SA!

That's interesting your doc isn't doing an u/s before putting you on Femara. Mine insisted to check for cyst(s), because fertility meds can cause cysts to get bigger = problems. That's why we had to wait 4 cycles to finally get the Femara, because of a big cyst. When the cyst shrunk I was given the meds. Just my 2 cents and food for thought. (if you have cyst(s) being on fertility meds isn't a goo thing like my doc said, I didn't want to cause problems with making it grow even larger and have to get surgery or something)

Hmm, when in your cycle did they do the ultrasound?

I think I may go in and talk to my dr once I get my bloodwork results back. Maybe I'll ask her about checking to make sure there are no cysts.

Lindsey you didn't get monitored to check your follicles when you were on the Femara did you? I'm assuming my doc won't since she didn't ever mention it, but who knows.

He always did the u/s between CD 1-5. Nope he didn't monitor me for follicles, since I was already ovulating, but I'd go back each new cycle for the u/s.

My doctor put me on clomid without an ultrasound for cysts. It was not something she was concerned about for me. The only monitoring I have had is checking progesterone levels on CD 22-23ish to make sure I have post O levels.

Interesting...I think more doctors prescribing Femara do the ultrasounds to check for cysts and such, which I totally agree with. I think doc's should if you're on Clomid too. An u/s doesn't take long. I know I wouldn't want to be on the Femara with a cyst and make problems get worse, IMHO. I'm glad my doc was cautious and knew what he was doing. And didn't want to make things get worse.

My doctor didn't give me an u/s before prescribing Clomid either. I think he felt that if the Clomid didn't work for me then he would assume something else is wrong other then coming off of BC. I am going to ask for an u/s anyways. I want to make sure their are no cysts, because I have been told that it can effect other areas of your life outside of fertility as well. (ie: increased risk for cancer ect)

So was this an abdominal ultrasound? Because I have AF from CD 1-5 and doing an transvaginal ultrasound...yuck!

Since they only give you the Femara for a limited time (maybe 6 cycles) I want to make sure everything is in total working order first!

Good luck! I'm starting clomid next cycle without an ultrasound as well. I think your doc would probably do an ultrasound if he/she felt like you had signs that you may have a cyst.

My doc had no idea I had a cyst, no signs no symptoms, but that's his regime doing an u/s to make sure everything inside looks good and clear before starting fertility meds, since they can make things worse if it's not clear inside.

Thanks all! She didn't ever mention any sort of monitoring, but we only talked about Clomid/Femara very briefly. I know she doesn't really believe in doing progesterone tests after ovulation because she said it can vary throughout the day and the only true predictor is to do an endometrial biopsy.

I'll be talking to her once I get my bloodwork results and after Dh's SA results and I'll ask about the early ultrasound and also about monitoring to see how many follicles I produce and see what she says. I also wanted to see what she thought about accupuncture since I've been thinking of doing that.

I do kind of hate the idea of a transvaginal exam while AF is here though... I have a feeling that is going to be pretty darn embarassing.

I hated it too, but that's their job they are used to doing that so no need to worry! Good luck
