They don't even make sense. I asked a long time ago about what they covered and they said basically anything that is diagnostic to see WHY you can't get pregnant is covered. Any treatment to GET you pregnant is not covered. So they should cover my blood tests, they should cover like if I had an HSG or something. But they wouldn't cover giving me Clomid or doing an IUI.

So I called and they said they won't cover Dh's semen analysis. They said it is under infertility treatment. That is so stupid! It's not treatment! It's diagnostic to find out if there is a problem!

What a bunch of crap. We can afford to pay out of pocket and we will, I just think it's dumb because they should be paying for it.

I'm sorry Shannon....maybe if your doctor codes it differently they would cover it.....like something under the diagnostic name. Do you have major medical, where if you meet your deductible you can at least get 80% back. I wouldn't give up. Lots of my co-workers have had to resend their claims several times and eventually they did cover it.

Good luck!

Sorry, I hear ya. I hate insurance, hence one of the reasons why we don't have it.

I work in the medical billing field. A lof of times if you just ask your Dr. to code it as something other than infertility then it should be covered. I have Aetna ins. but no fertility benefits, except they will pay for office visits and diagnostic testing. My DH has had a few SA done at his Urologist Dr. and not at my Re's office. That could also be the reason. I think they should cover it. Good Luck.
