I've been searching around for a good answer as to why doctors have their patients start clomid on different days. I'd read all sorts of things that contradict each other. Below is a link to the first answer I've read that I like since it's medically based and not someone like me taking a random stab at a guess.

Very interesting Cel....now that I read that, I think I understand better why my doctor put me on CD 5-9. I already ovulate on my own, but it's late in my cycle. I believe he's trying to get me to o earlier with a better quality egg. I'm not sure though....just a thought. Do you o on your own?

Thats very interesing. Thank you for posting that. I was wondering the same thing, and never found a good reason. My Dr. has me on it CD5-9, although this last cycle I took it days 3-7 I think because my cycle was screwed up.

Cel,
Thanks so much for this article! I had really puzzled over the differences in recommendations. Sounds like I'm doing it on the right days (3-7, although this cycle may have been 4-8), as I STILL O between days 21-23!

That's really interesting. I thought Clomid was pretty much just for women who don't ovulate at all on their own. How do they know if you need Clomid even though you ovulate?

My progesterone is super low. I ovulate, but really late. My doctor's and my hope is that the Clomid would make me ovulate sooner, producing a better quality corpus luteum which will then raise my progesterone levels. We could have tried a progesterone cream, but my temps are all over the place and while that doesn't tell you exactly what's going on, it looks like the first half of my cycle is broken and not just the second half. I laugh when I say half though because the first "half" can be 20-40 days and the second "half" can be 7-9. We think my progesterone is low because of bad corpus luteums. I didn't want to treat a symptom (progesterone) rather than the problem (delayed O and poor quality corpus luteum). She let me make the decision. I did a bunch of research and felt like the Clomid was the better solution. I may still need a progesterone cream, so I'm going to ask them to check my progesterone levels to see if the clomid fixed it or if it needs a little extra help.
