I avoid caffeine for the most part. I figure I need all the help I can get since I can't seem to get pregnant. Caffeine also makes my hands shake and my heart race. It's very uncomfortable and I figure that couldn't be good for a baby. For most people though, a cup of coffee or a soda with caffeine in it probably doesn't do any harm. Some docs even tell their patients to drink a cup of regular coffee if they're stopped up to try to help with that.

I just read that as long as you stay under 300 mg then it's safe. Some studies show none at all though. I drink tea and soda sometimes.

Aside from the tiny bit in chocolate and hot chocolate I don't know that I consume any. I used to drink 5+ cups of coffee a day, but I cut it out of my diet a few months before we started TTC. Now that was a withdrawl headache!

Well, I have cut back a ton on my soda consumption. But I have to have a fountain drink in the morning. It's my "coffee". If I knew it definately was bad, I would cut it out completely. It's nice to know that a little is ok. I tried to cut it out completely, but the caffiene withdrawl head ache is HORRIBLE!

I'm suffering from caffeine withdrawal as well, I usually drink three + cups of coffee in the morning, and have cut back to one.

I'm slowly cutting back. I started drinking caffeine free Pepsi and Dr. Pepper at work...for whatever reason, my brain thinks its real and I get the same caffeine satisfaction w/o the caffeine. So...I only drink the real stuff when I'm not at work or home (not very often).

ohhhhh Dr. Pepper!! That's my drug! I used to drink Diet Coke like it was my job & then my dr put me on Topamax for migraines & it changes the way certain foods & drinks taste & it made DC taste really odd. So I stopped drinking it. It doesn't do it to DP as much so I still drink that. Just not the way I did w/ diet Coke. Ohhhh how I loved that. It was gross though!!

I've never really liked coffee, so I don't drink it at all. DH is on a caffeine-free diet (Due to GERD) so there aren't many caffeinated products in the house. I have cut out all soda (caffeine and otherwise) from my diet unless it's the only option for a drink (like at a restaurant where you don't want to drink the tap water! ). I mostly drink water and milk and OJ.

I know what you mean about teh Topamax!!! I HATED all of my favorite foods and drinks. It was terrible! LOL. Besides, it make my headaches worse, not better. Good think I wasn't on it for too long.

I read it's not good and that even 1 soda has enough caffiene to cut your chances of ttc by 50%

I've gotten pregnant before and consumed caffeine. I don't drink a lot, but I usually have an iced tea or diet coke. I am very prone to headaches & nausea, and if I don't have caffeine it just exacerbates the matter.

I also know of heavy caffeine consumers who got pregnant easily, so I don't think it is that big of a factor. (But I'm no doctor, of course!)

WOW, that's a LOT for 1 drink! I started this topic to get others opinions, and after looking up stuff on the internet, I think I'm going to steer clear for the most part. I may have an occasional coke on the weekends. But after reading Jlynn's comment, I don't want to cut my chances in half! I need all the help I can get!!

Here is a link to the American Pregnancy Association webpage about caffeine/TTC/pregnancy.

Caffeine and TTC/Pregnancy

It basically says studies show an increase in miscarriages for people who drink 300mg of caffeine a day (equivalent to 5 cups of coffee). Some experts say to limit it to 150mg a day...anyway, I thought the link would help explain a few things...

I asked this when I went to the DR for a different matter, and she siad that up to 3 cups of filter coffee or 6 cups of tea is fine, that she personally had never heard of caffeine affecting ttc any more than any other product and she wouldn´t reccommend a 0 caffeine diet. I never drink fizzy drinks, just water or water/juice mixed, I have about 3 cups of tea a day. that made me feel much better!! Like I always say, everything in moderation!! Except BD at O time !!!

I kept reading that caffine cuts your fertility by 50% so I switched my regular morning tea to decaf (which was brutal!) and had my husband cut down to 1 cup of coffee a day (he's a coffee junkie) then a month ago we went to see the fertility specialist and that was the first thing my husband asked the doctor about. To my complete surprise she told me it was fine to go back to drinking my morning caffinated tea and that hubby could go back to caffinated coffee too. I'm pretty confused about all the conflicting info on this topic myself

Crap.. I've cut down a lot on Diet Pepsi, going for Diet Sierra Mist, knowing all "diet" will have to go out the window with the caffiene when I get my BFP, but my coffee will now cut down my chances (even more) of a BFP?!? I'm glad I got an awesome coffee maker as a wedding gift!

Last year I was really sick and I was sent to a hematologist to figure out what was going on with my blood. My levels were all screwed up, and was severely anemic and iron deficient. Well he asked about my eating habits and I told him I drank Diet Coke a lot. He said to me, "please do not ever drink anything diet again". It's the worst thing you could put in your body. Having a hematologist/oncologist tell me that was very awakening, and I have not drank it since. I just had to share that seeing how many of you drink diet. I was a die hard diet coke girl, but after talking to him, I quit. (the diet coke wasn't the cause of my blood problems, just a suggestion he gave me)
