Do any of you know if sperm mobility is better or less in the mornings as opposed to the evenings? And I know that hot tubs can kill sperm, but was wondering about a hot shower? My DH always jumps in the shower right before we BD, and I'm wondering if that's hurting things? Also, how long do you lay there afterwards? Is there any chance of getting pg if you get up immediately because of time constraints?

I'm not sure about SM in the morning vs. evening. I always did hear about hot tubs and stuff. Just to be safe, I always ask DH not to take his showers right before. I've also heard that lying down for 10-20 minutes is good, but this past month, my doctor told me to DTD at night and go right to sleep....not to empty my bladder until morning. I was really afraid of UTI's, but thankfully, that didn't happen this month at all. Good luck.

ETA: Lots of girls have become pregnant though not lying down. Sometimes I think it just makes us feel better to stay still and give the boys a chance to get to where they need to be!! My doctor did tell me I didn't need to stand on my head or anything crazy like that He knew I was feeling desperate!

I don't know about when the best mobility is...but I have heard that for some guys, they have more swimmers in the morning.

Having said that...we BD when its convenient (we have a 2 year old)...so most of the time during the week, its a night and then on the weekends we can in the morning.

You don't have to stay lying down or propped up to help the sperm along. If you are worried about leakage, I would highly suggest the Instead Cups (normally used for menstral flow) to keep the spermies "up there" while you carry out your normal daily activities.

Good luck!!

I've heard that BDing in the mornings is better especially for men with low sperm count. Something about it being better in the mornings. Who knows if that's actually true or just heresay from the internet (can't believe everything you read). My ob-gyn said not to believe most of what you read online.

I usually try to lay still for a good 10-15 mins after BD, but I've heard you don't have to do that. The swimmers usually get to where they need to pretty quickly. Your cervix allows for them to pool in there & stay up there, but you can also use the Instead Soft Cups as someone else suggested (I started using them more regularly after BD this cycle too). They just got approved to be used as fertility aids but were orginally designed for AF. They can help keep the "boys" from leaking out. Just keep in mind that if there is leakage it's seminal fluid but the swimmers have usually separated from that fluid & you should be alright. Sperm is only a small percentage of seminal fluid.

I'm afraid I don't know the answers to most of what you're asking. BUT I do know that you don't need to lie still afterward. I've been doing it again recently, though, just for peace of mind!
