i have been ttc for 6 mnths with 1 loss in march

so i went to the doc today becuase i have started bleeding yesterday midcycle CD17 no ovulation yet, he said he is going to screen me from head to toe. first he asked some questions, from those questions we found that i have abnormal cycles (long cycles ovulating late spotting after ovulation) and this spotting now is not normal and is due to a hormone imbalance... soooo his suggestion THREE MONTHS OF BCP!!! ***!!! i refused and said i had been on it for 7 years and was not about to go back onto it and have this same problem happen again after taking it and realising that i wasted 3 months!

Im sure you understand what i am say? i was put on bcp due to long, irregular cycles with painful periods,in those 7 years i did 5 years of bcp came off for a year because i had read and been told by my gynae that being on bcp makes people with long and irregular cycles regular, so i came off but the problem began where my cycles started at 32 days, then 48 days, the 54 days then 57 days untill eventually i went back on the pill. so what i had read and been told by my gynae was not working with me.

when i told the doctor that he then mentioned the almighty CLOMID!!!!(angle music) he however said that he doesnt want me having a multiple pregnancy... he said what happens if i have triplets and i said... bring it on... he looked confused - i guess most people are like  what! triplets?? anywayi just want a baby whether it be more than one fine!

anyway, then it was off to the u/s scan... he congradulated me on having a healthy uterus... why the spotting then ??? just the endo coming away for some reason he answers, then it was on to the ovaries.... he said... have any previous doctors mentioned POCS before     i almost died!! he said that i didnt have it but i have 3 3cm cyst: 2 on my left ovary and one on my right... fluid fulled follies... (i want to research and see if i am maybe getting ready to ovulate becuase he didnt say anything about ovulation)

then he said, once again bcp will get rid of these cysts!!! I DONT WANT BCP DAMIT DID YOU NOT HEAR ME THE FIRST TIME?? GEEZ! i had cyst on my ovaries while i was on bcp so why would going on bcp now make any difference... i will just come off with cysts anyway.

anyway, then i had to go have infertility blood test done - where they test the fsh, prog, estrogen and so forth....

anyway right now i am bitter and just plain actually numb... i dont care but i do care... i dont want bcp because that knocks 3 months off of my ttc period.

i just dont see how bcp is going to help me, i will have the same old issue... i go on, have nice text book 28 day cycles go off and WAM! flippen 40 day 50 day 60 day cycles... its rediculous! its just going to happen again... i want the clomid! i want it i want to ovulate thats what you need to do to have a baby - is ovulate damit!! :x

anyway im going back next friday he wants to see the size of the cycst then and he wants to discuss my blood results and pap results... yes he did a pap...

he said that i must decide... bcp or clomid... what should i do?

I have a hormonal imbalance that causes irregular cycles as well. Just in my 3 months of charting I've O'd anywhere from CD 14-23! They put me on Depo to try to correct it after DD and it caused 6 months of nonstop bleeding (I kid you not). After I had DS I agreed to go on Yaz to try to correct my cycles and not only did it make them more irregular it made me angry all the time. I was angry with my children for wanting hugs, my mom for asking if I needed anything, my DH for asking how my day was, etc. It was horrible! I've been dreading hearing what you just described because I will not allow them to put me on BC to try to correct it again. If I were given the choice I would go for the Clomid. Whether it resulted in a single pregnancy or multiple it wouldn't matter to me either. Bring on the babies!

Hey Jenn! I know you from TTCAL. I would go for the Clomid and see if that helps. I wouldn't want to go on BCP either. You do what you think is best for you. I wish you all the best of luck on a quick, sticky BFP with the 1st try of Clomid

thanx ladies, my heart is saying clomid because i know i will waste 3 months of ttc on the bcp.

but i have heard that if you take clomid with cyst you they get bigger

but then why do they give it to PCOS sufferers???

MamaAnna i was on Yaz to and i was the same!! i was such a cow!!!

There are always some cysts there and if you haven't ovulated yet that could easily be why you have them right now. They usually go away after you ovulate so when you go in for your next check they could be gone. I think they do something else for women with PCOS to help with the cysts, or maybe they're a different kind. I'm not entirely sure. Three doesn't sound like PCOS to me though. I thought that was supposed to be strings of cysts that look sort of like beads on the screen. If BCP hasn't helped you in the past though it definitely isn't going to now. The female reproductive and hormone systems are not something where you can say "third try's a charm" or fourth, or fifth. We're not that cooperative!

And just to say it again, Yaz is evil!

If I were in your situation, I'd go w/ the clomid as well. I had long irregular cycles before BCP. I was on BCP for about 7 years and have had long irregular cycles for the almost 2 years I've been off of them. I don't have cysts as far as I know and have no mid cycle spotting. I do have low progesterone. My doc put me on clomid this cycle to try to force me to O earlier, with a better egg, a better corpus luteum and then higher progesterone. It definitely made me O earlier. I'm still waiting to hear back on my progesterone readings.

I can't believe the doc didn't want to give you Clomid because of the chance of multiples. The chance of multiples on Clomid is very low. Unless you have problems with your cervix, this shouldn't have been his reason for not putting you on it. There are plenty of other reasons not to start it that are potentially more pressing.

I looked into Femara as well as Clomid and decided Clomid was best of my situation. You may want to educate yourself on both drugs and decide which you think may help you more.

if you don't feel totally comfortable with what he is suggesting, seek a second opinion. With cysts, a cycle or two of BCP can greatly shrink them, and usually that little bit of time does not screw up your body much and helps to aid in fertility.

Clomid + large cysts can be a painful combination. I would definitely seek a second opinion before you proceed, since your doctor seems to not want you to do any research on your own and that just seems wrong to me in a doc.

I would personally seek a second opinion. I can't imagine that there are only two options. I have gone on BCP in the past to shrink large and hemorrhagic cysts, but not while TTC. Good luck to you hun.

My doc tells me to research everything, but to only trust reliable websites, becuase he wants me to make an educated choice when it comes to my treatment. If he doesn't want you to do research, then he needs to provide you with good info on both choices and let you decide from that. I still think you should seek a second opinion, as it can't hurt.

Like the other ladies said, second opinion. He shouldn't be threatened by your knowledge. Also, if you don't want to do either of those things, it is your body, your decision. He shouldn't try to pressure you to make any decision. He should just give you options and then ask you how you want to proceed.
