I just got a call from my mom that our chihuahua, Baby, died. He was 14 years old and we'd had him for 12 of those years after my mom rescued him from a shelter. The poor little guy just couldn't take the heat and died in my brother's arms. I'm just completely falling apart right now. I'm sure those of you with furbabies understand how I'm feeling right now. I'm sorry if I'm not myself for awhile. I just feel so completely heartbroken.

Ohhh im so so sorry to hear your sad news. I cant imagine what you are going through, but i know how devastating it must be,i dont think this should be underestimated.
It really does hurt despite what some heartless people will think or say.
You have to be sad, this is natural, but you gave him an amazing life, you took him in and cared for him and loved him, thats what little dogs deserve honey, and you have to be proud of yourself for giving him such a good loving home.
Nothing anyone says will make you feel better, you need time to grieve, but please dont be sad,you done the very best for him and he loved you for it.
Thinking of you and sending you love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh no honey...I'm so sorry. It sounds like he lived a long and happy doggy life. Our furbabies are family members...take it easy today and take time to grieve.
(((hugs))))

Thanks ladies. I'm trying so hard to just carry on as usual right now. I haven't told DD yet and just don't know how. It was so hard on her when we lost my Maggie (14 year old lab) last year and I know this will be worse because they used to cuddle up in bed together. She keeps asking what's wrong so I'm just trying to not cry and force myself to think of other things. I think as soon as DH gets home I'm going to let him sit with the kids so I can hide and break down. I haven't seen the little guy since we moved. I never got to say goodbye.

I'm so sad for you and your family. I know how hard it is and we too are furbaby lovers and think of our animals as our "kids".
Thinking of you!

I am So sorry! I'm sending a lot of hugs your way! One of my rottweilers (named Baby!), died about a month ago, and it was so hard on me, as well as DF. She was about 10 years old, and the way she died was very traumatic. I am so sorry for your loss.

Aaron_Nicole - That's what happened with my Maggie, but her joints were calcifying. She was a 14 year old black lab they had to put down in November of last year. I was in Maryland and they were and still are in Ohio. I would've been there in a heartbeat for her, but they didn't want to upset me because of my wedding so they took her to put her down without me. She'd been my baby since she was 6 weeks old. Losing both of them within a year has made it so much harder. My Muffy is still alive and happy on my mom's farm, but I'm so worried he'll get depressed now that he's the only one left.
Ashleighgurl - I'm so sorry that you lost your Baby as well. It's so hard to lose them, especially if you've had them for a long time.
We find our pets knowing that we will probably outlive them. We know that they'll have health problems and that they'll have additional risks because of what others may do to them. Still, we take them in, we open our homes and our hearts to them. We love them, care for them, nurture them, and stand by them through thick and thin. They may be different, but they are still parts of our families. I can't think of Baby without crying and I think about Maggie every day, just as I do Baby and Muffy and Mandy who had to be put down after a car hit her almost twenty years ago. They stay with us in our hearts and memories throughout our lives.
Thank you all for your kind words and support. Know that I'm also so sorry for any furbaby losses that you've suffered through the years. It's just so hard.

I am so sorry for your losses. My family lost our almost 14 year old yorkie almost two years ago, and it still hurts sometimes. When I see a little yorkie that looks like her, or sometimes I will pick one up and it feels like I am holding Tina it is hard. I still miss her. I did not get to be there when my parents had to have her put to sleep either, nor was my sister. But I knew they were going to do it that morning. She had liver cancer and was going down hill over several months.
I am a vet, so I also deal with this on at least a weekly basis (I have had two this week already.) It is so hard. I do everything I can to help the owners because I know the pain they are feeling, plus for most all of my patients they mean a lot to me too, and I also feel the loss. If you need to talk about it please feel free to PM me. I deal with this a lot, and I completely understand your pain. If you want I can find some information on loss of a pet and talking to children. I know there are several good children books about it, and information about bringing it up. Let me know.
This was my Tiny Tina one month before we had to let her go. This was at Christmas time, she rallied for us all and had mostly good days while we all knew that was going to be our last holiday with her, and that we were home to say goodbye to her.

I am so sorry for your loss. My Snoodle is 8 and I worry about him all the time. Many people just don't understand what it is like to love and lose a furbaby and my heart goes out to you and your family.
