Well, I had my first RE visit today!
The plan is for me to get an HSG next cycle and also do some more bloodwork (Rubella antibodies, ABO blood type and repeat testosterone).
She gave me a prescription to go ahead and start Clomid next cycle too. I have to talk to Dh and see if he wants to start this.
She said Dh's sperm morphology is fine. She said they can be really super strict on the morph so I guess we have ruled out Dh's sperm as a problem, especially since he has such a great count and motility.
She did an ultrasound and took a while doing it. I have two things to worry about now.
1. She was having trouble getting a good look at my uterus. She said probably it was just tilited to the left, but it's possible that I have a unicornuate uterus. I googled that and it's when your uterus is too small and you are missing one of your tubes. Crap. I hope that's not the problem. She said we will know for sure after the HSG.
2. She said my ovaries look polycystic. Whaaa?. I would have never guessed that. Weird thing is, my testosterone and other bloodwork came back normal. So she's repeating that but she said they don't diagnose PCOS just based on how the ovaries look. So I could have polycystic ovaries but still not have PCOS, I guess. She will give me Metformin if I do get diagnosed with PCOS. I'm not sure that it really means much of anything because she said she could tell that I did ovulate. So since the main problem with PCOS is that you don't ovulate (I think?) then hmm, I don't know. Like I said, it seems so strange to me because the ONLY symptom I have that would indicate PCOS is acne.
So assuming I'm not pregnant this cycle, I should have the HSG in a couple weeks. And maybe start the Clomid. I'd kind of rather do Femara but I think Dh and my Dr are both more on the Clomid train so I may try it out and see how it goes.

I'm glad you have a plan in the works. I didn't know that PCOS involved acne. Now I'm glad I chart or I'd be flipping out. I've had acne since I hit puberty! I hope the HSG comes back fine and that the Clomid does the trick. Good luck!

I am glad you had a productive appt! It will be good to see your HSG results, I was so relieved when mine came back ok. As for the PCOS, the only thing I can think or is that if you have it and ovulate, you still want to watch out for the over 50% miscarriage rate associated with women who have PCOS. But Met takes care of that nicely

I'm glad you have a working plan now. It always feels better knowing that there is a plan. I hope that your uterus is okay and that your HSG comes back good and clear hun.

Yep sure does! Even though I was told that I don't have PCOS, like I was told before and am sure I have, I am still covered with acne. It's terrible and I use two Rx meds for it. Sucks.

Sounds like a great appt Shannon! I hope your HSG goes well. Did she say what they would do if it was a unicormuate uterus? Good luck with the clomid too!!!

It sounded like she won't give me the Met if my testosterone level comes back normal. She said you can have polycystic ovaries without having PCOS. I don't get it. Should I push for the met???
Do they know what about the PCOS causes the increased risk of miscarriage?

She didn't say. I assume we'd still be trying to get both ovaries to make eggs because if you ovulate from the ovary with no fallopian tube then it will do no good! I hope that's not what my problem is, but if it was, it would sure explain why I haven't gotten pregnant.
The thing I would be worried about is if you DO get pregnant with a unicornuate uterus, your chances of preterm birth are very increased. But at the same time, it's so much better to know that ahead of time so you can get extra monitoring of the baby.

Sounds like a good appointment. It probably feels good to have a plan forming, even if you aren't 100% sure what that is yet. If you do decide to start the Clomid, hopefully it works quickly for you w/ no side effects.

Sounds like everything is going in the right direction. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with the HSG and all is clear. Let us know what you decide about the clomid. Thankfully, I haven't had too many S/E with it myself. This is my 2nd month and on both of the 2nd days I have gotten headaches. Other than that, it worked to make me ovulate earlier! Good luck!

Well, I *think* that the increased risk or miscarriage is just if you have the actual syndrome PCOS. So maybe you are fine if you just have the polycystic ovaries without the syndrome. I would ask her!
