So, it's official. Today's cd25. I think AF will be here in about 8 days...unless we were successful. I have been peeing a record amoung of times, swollen bb's with dark blue veins (it's my only hope). Saw RE today. I'm starting Clomid next cycle (july). And we were given the option of bd'ing naturally after HCG trigger shot on cd 12 or IUI. How many of you choose to naturally try, after trigger? I think that's what we're going to do. If 3 mo. down the road and no success, then IUI. Last month we did conceive, but ended up not progressing. So... I have hope. Has anyone had side effects with Clomid? And are there varying doses?

I hope you get your BFP THIS month!
I know there are several ladies on her who take Clomid, so they will be better at answering your questions than me.
Good luck hon!

This was my third cycle on Clomid, and the first that I actually O'd. But, Clomid usually starts at 50mg and then they go up if you don't O from it. However, if you are already ovulating, it just strengthens your eggs so I am guessing you would start at 50mg.
Clomid does have its side effects: Hot flashes, moodiness, drying out CM, headaches, etc. I mostly have hot flashes, and a TON of crabbness this cycle. (I was bumped up to 150mg, so that could be why)
Thats nice that you are getting the trigger shot so you can know exactly when you are going to O. And I think timed BD will work just fine. And like you said, if it doesn't work, you can move on to the IUI's if you choose.
Good Luck! And if you need to vent about the Clomid, Im here for ya!

I'm on my second cycle with clomid (100mg). I was given it to produce better quality eggs in a more timely fashion....I was o'ing between CD 18-25; usually later in the 20's. This last month I was on it for days 5-9 and o'd on CD 16. This month he moved me to taking it CD 3-7 in the hopes I would o around CD 14. I've had more S/E this month than last. So far I've had headaches, moodiness (a bit of a meltdown), and hot flashes. I hope it works for you!!! I haven't done the trigger or IUI, just timed BD using the CBEFM also. GOOD LUCK!! If you need anything, just PM me.

I'm on my 2nd round of 50 mg Clomid. I Od really late with super low progesterone and a short LP. I'm taking mine CD3-7 and last cycle I Od on CD17. I'm waiting to O this cycle. My doc isn't doing a trigger with me, but it's something worth considering so you know when you O. I would assume it makes timing things much easier. I don't have too many side effects with my clomid. I have slight light headedness if I don't drink enough water and stand up too quickly. I have dry CM, which I combat this w/ green tea, cough syrup and pre-seed. I'm also a tad bit irritable and way more emotional. I could also feel my right ovary last cycle on O day while I was walking around.
I was given the choice to bump my dose up to 100 mg this cycle in hopes of Oing a few days earlier. I decided the down side of that (possible drier cm, thinner uterine lining, etc.) outweighed the benefits of my Oing a few days earlier, so I chose to stay at 50 mg.

Thanks for the info ladies! It's a bummer, but I am NOT going to continue with medical assistance. I was told today that meds to help with infertility would NOT be covered by insurance. I guess I'm out of the loop, but I just assumed they would be to some extent. NO? My RE's office said total for 1 month (round) of CLOMID + 2 ultrasounds is $2,000! We'll just continue on our own for now. UGH. Oh well....... back to square one. At least we know my hormones and dh sperm are normal to conceive.

((HUGS)) That's terrible! Who can afford this kind of thing?? I wish the insurance companies were more willing to cover some of the costs. In this day & age you need to be wealthy just to fill your gas tank let alone pay for fertility treatments!
I hope you've already gotten your sticky bean this cycle & wouldn't need any of that anyway!

I agree! I mean, I have excellent insurance but it doesn't cover TREATMENT for infertility, just TESTING to find out what the prob is. I was told by my RE that we have unexplained infertility. HAHAHA! Oh well....we'll just continue on our own. This board is soooo great!!! I just have to say.

That stinks!!! I can't believe it's that much money. Can you look at going to a different doctor? Some give reduced rates. Also, my clomid for a month was $18 at WalMart with no insurance. It's supposed to be one of the cheaper fertility drugs. I hope everything works out; hopefully you just won't need any of it. KUP!

WHAT!? $18? I guess I need to talk more with my DR about it down the road if no luck in few months on our own. I wonder why such a price difference. This is what I was told:
1 Clomid cycle:
3 visits>
1. $900 for Lab work (Diagnostic Testing)
2. $460-580 (u/s + HCG i think)
3. $500 (insemination IUI) But, we were going to bd on our own after HCG if needed. The nurse lady asked if we were going to use fresh sperm. HUH? Opposed to what? (this is all new to me)
IDK. I'm pretty annoyed. I have excellent insurance through a Fortune 100 Company with no deductable and 100% coverage-but not to TREAT infertility, just to TEST! UGH. We'll just continue on our own and have fun with it! YAY!

Your insurance then would possibly cover all of your labwork, the HSG, and the ultrasounds. I would get the medical codes from the doctor's office and call your insurance company. It sounds like you have pretty good insurance, definately check into it. Alot of times it depends on how they code it. Good luck.

I wanted to pop in here and say I completely get the frustration of the having to pay for everything. Our insurance isn't as good as your's is, we still have to pay 20% after deductible, but they don't cover infertility anything. Just my diagnostic stuff. We have been out about 3 grand for two IUI cycles and my testing and doctor visits.
I do want to say that the trigger was only 80 dollars and my clomid was 18 dollars. Thats the cheap part of it. You might discuss with your doctor doing that, and you monitoring with OPKs so you don't have to do the ultrasound. Good luck to you!!

Excellent suggestion!! Thank you so much! It was like a slap in the face when she told me we'd have to PAY $2000 in a few days if we want to go ahead. And since I'm ovulating (per OPK's) and our #'s are all perfect (hormones and dh's SA).... I'm just in a confused state about it all. But, I guess it's worth a call to see what [we] can do.
Thanks!!
