I brought up baby names to DH today. Someone in the ttc #1 board asked about them. This is something we never discuss. I asked him if there were any names he liked. Nope, he hasn't thought about it. I pressed a little more and got 1 name out of him, then the conversation went down hill. Somehow we both started suggesting names of characters from 1980's cartoons. DH loves to plan for our future. I told him I seriously wanted to know some of his suggestions because it was a part of planning our future. He said he'd rather plan our future like we did this morning, last night, the night before etc The conversation majorly degraded from there. I don't think we'll be able to have a serious discussion on names until we're prego with a sticky bean.

I agree with that one. DH and I used to throw around names once in a while, but ever since we started TTC we stopped that. Especially since the one name he truly truly loved for a boy was Albert...or something like that. LOL Umm....NO. Now, we probably wont discuss them again until we are pregnant.

LOL!!!
I was pretty lucky...we have always had a boys named picked out and I suggested Bailey and was waiting for DH to object. He liked it!
Now that we are TTC again, we are sticking with the boy name. We went around and around with a girl name. We decided on one, but DH didn't like how I wanted to spell it: Camryn. He wanted to spell it Cameron. I told him that my way was more feminine and it reminded me of KirK Cameron. Well that ended that discussion!! So if we are blessed with another girl it will be Camryn Grace.
Names are hard! Especially when there is name association - like some bully in grade school was named Helen - we couldn't possible use that name. KWIM??

DH and I toss around names from time to time. He is dead-set against some of the ones I love and there are some names that he loves and I really dislike as well. I figure for now it's all in fun, but once we get pregnant, it'll be war, I'm sure!

DH and I planned out our names before we were even married. We have three boys names (AJ being one of them) and 2 girls names chosen.

Names are tough. We had the hardest time deciding on Mason. We have a better idea now of what we want for #2, whether it's a boy or a girl. I think it's fun to talk about, but you don't have to get serious until the baby is on the way.
One of my friends just had a little girl and she had a list of 4 or 5 names and didn't decide until after she was born. They just couldn't 100% agree on a name.

DH and I quickly agreed on DD name, but we just couldn't agree on a name for DS. He was at least 12 hours old before we finally settled on something. Even now, I still call him by a nickname that has absolutely nothing to do with his given name! I think we will have a really tough time doing the name-thing again!

I'm sure we'll have a difficult time when we actually decide to talk about it for real. DH suggested Timmy this morning on a walk. I just rolled my eyes and kept walking. He only suggested it because he was saying it like the South Park character Plus, he knows I don't like names like Timmy, Tommy, Johnny etc. Names like that aren't my cup of tea. They're ok when a boy is really little, but at what age do you stop using the y on the end.

That is a good question - I think it depends on when the child tires of it. My DH as a child was always called TJ (his name is Anthony Joseph just like my son) but when he got into intermediate school he started going by Tony. It is still hard on my MIL, she occasionally calls him TJ still. I will let AJ decide as well.
One of our other names is Jonathan and when he is little we are fully prepared to call him Jonny or Jon. So with that we will go with whatever he wants - if he is 30 and still wants to be called Jonny then that is up to him.

It's my argument (& I'll clue DH in to this once we get pg) that if the woman is carrying the child for 9 months & having to deal with everything that entails, she should be entitled to first dibs on the name!

My DH has posed this situation... He says that if the baby is a boy, He should get to name it, and if the baby is a girl, I would get to name it. I was like, Ummmm, NO! I love your logic though... we're carrying the child, we should have major pull for the name! When our DH's get kicked in the ribs for months and have to pass a watermelon out of their Whoo-ha, then they could have some say!
