Oooo we haven't had one of these for a while!
I say thumbs up. I don't know a whole lot about it, but it seems to get good reviews.

Thumbs up! The family I was a Nanny for loved them! The music is soooo soothing and it is great at engaging the kids for a while!

Thumbs down. I really don't watch much tv and am not really an advocate of most tv things for children, especially kids that young.

thumbs up! It was a real lifesaver when DD was about a year old. I knew I could pop her in her playpen and she would watch it for at least 15 minutes. Since she was never much of a napper and didn't sleep through the night until she was 18 months old, I definitely had my days where I needed a few minutes of down time in the afternoon.

Thumbs up for me. We have a couple videos, but Bailey likes the CD's too. The use them at Bailey's preschool to reinforce their learning themes - last week they were working on sea life and so showed the Baby Einstein video that has to do with water.
I think like most things, its ok in moderation.

Thumbs up. They're lifesavers when you need to do dinner or a load of laundry- like everyone says IN MODERATION Plus, the music is actually soothing for mama's too!

In between.
A friend let me borrow one and AJ liked it for about 6 months and then could care a less. I since gave that one back to her so I don't know if I would buy more for ourselves.

movies: Thumbs down. I really don't think babies/toddlers benefit from tv watching. The videos also used to be falsly marketed as educational, but since then they have not been allowed to market them in that way.
cds: thumbs up. I think music is very beneficial. But I'd be much more likely to just buy other classical cds.

Thumbs sideways. I'm not crazy about exposing babies to TV while they are so young. But at the same time I know these were a lifesaver for my SIL when she needed a few minutes to do something and keep my niece occupied.
I still remember babysitting her when she was about 18 months and she was missing mommy and daddy and crying but asked for "limestein". Finally I figured out she meant "little einstein". Once the DVD was in, the crisis was averted! Whew!

Exactly my thoughts too. I did buy the baby sign one when my DS was about 6 month old. We did sign language with him until he started talking about 6 months ago. The baby einstein sign video is ridiculous. It teaches signs like "mailbox and "driveway", etc etc. Things we had no use him to know. One video that did help us out thought was Baby See and Sign (probably more because it taught me a bunch of signs to teach with him than actually teaching him.) So I guess I'm thumbs down.
