Well, yesterday we got the results of dh's SA. Keep in mind that my doctor only ordered the HSG and SA to start the ball rolling, but was pretty sure that everything would come back fine and then I would start on Clomid (keep in mind that we have a 10 year old son together and then I got pregnant the first month we TTC again-back in September).
Well, my HSG came back all fine, no problems. Dh went last friday and did his SA (kinda begrudgingly ). Well, I got a call from my doctor's office yesterday that dh's SA came back with *very low* sperm count (only 5 million...normal is >20 million), as well as decreased motility and morphology.
I was SHOCKED, to say the least. That is the LAST thing I expected, and I was really worried about how dh would take the news. I called and scheduled an appt for Aug 5 with a Urologist. The nurse said it could be an easy fix (a variocele in the scrotum) OR they could end up treating both of us (fertility drugs to increase the odds of catching an eggie) OR we could end up doing IUI. We will just have to wait and see what he has to say.
So, that's all my news. Dh actually took the news really well. He said, "well, now what do we do??." I told him that maybe this would be our opportunity for twins and then be done having kiddos (we want 2 more).
We are actually leaving early tomorrow for a week in upstate NY visiting dh's extended family. It is *small town USA*, so I will not have internet access while we are at his grandma's. I will check back in next weekend. If anyone has any input or advice, I would LOVE to hear it!!

Awww, I'm sorry that you got bad results on the SA. I hope that there's an easy fix and you can be on your way to a nice BFP soon! It's good that your HSG went well and everything was clear! That's a positive!
Have fun on your trip. I live in Upstate NY, if you don't mind my asking where are you going? Maybe its close by! That would be funny! Anyhow, leave all your worries and enjoy your trip!

Interesting! I don't know much about SA's but I would think that if "conditions" were not right, the results could be off. Can they do a repeat - or do you think the Urologist will do that? I'm glad your HSG came back ok! That's great news!
Have fun on your trip!! Get some relaxing time in and enjoy yourself!

We are headed to Chateaugay, NY, and if you know where that is, I am SUPER impressed It is in that thin part of the top of the state, about 5 miles from the Canadian border...north of Lake Placid. Is that anywhere near you? NY is such a huge state!

I think the urologist may order a repeat, but I am not sure?!? I kinda probed to make sure there wasn't any ejaculation too recent before that, but he was like "Mel, what did it say?" I said, "ummm, not for 2-3 days?!?" He replied "NO, it said 2-5, and I didn't!" Oh, okay
I am looking forward to relaxing on our trip! We are stopping 1 night at Niagara Falls on the way home...I've been there, but dh and ds haven't!

Sorry the SA results were not good. You may want to repeat the SA. It can take several months to make new sperm so maybe do another SA in a couple months?
In the meantime for Dh to improve his count: no hot tubs or hot baths, no riding bikes, wear boxers, take a multivitamin and eat well. And make sure he follows recommendations for abstinance before doing the SA. Sorry if all that is stuff you already know!
Hopefully it is something that can be fixed easily.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of that actually! I live in the Adirondack Park in Lake George. So probably an 1.5 to 2 hours south of where you'll be! We go through Lake Placid on our way to Montreal and sometimes we meander around for fun! So we've probably been really close! LOL
Well, have a really good time!!! We'll miss you around here!

Thanks for the input Shannon! (I did double check the abstinance part, and he did follow those instructions I was hoping for an *easy fix*) I think the hardest part for him is going to be the boxers He told me he might as well just stop wearing any pants at all

Wow, I can't believe you actually kinda know where it is! Sometimes it's hard to believe this world can be a small place
We are walking out the door now ladies! Thanks for being there for me...I appreciate it! I will check back in next week! I'll miss you

Sorry about the SA results. For me it was bitter sweet to get results back. It's great to find out what's going on, but it sucks to know something is wrong. The tips Shannon gave were great, hopefully they can help.

Melanie, I am so sorry about the results, but it is good to know and it sounds like it can be an easy fix. I just copied part of your post and emailed it to my DH. He seems to think that our inability to get pregnant couldn't possibly be related to him, since he was able to get me pregnant so quickly both times. I just wanted him to realize it is possible. I told him last night (before I even saw this post) that I wanted him to start taking a multi-vitamin every day- I think I read that Geritol complete is a good one to try. He just rolled his eyes and said, "yes dear, whatever will make you feel better about things"..
Anyway, not to hijack your post, but I wanted to tell you that I think that you guys can get around this and fix it pretty easily. I know the news wasn't what you wanted to hear, but at least you are finally getting to the bottom of the mystery.
And I hope you have a great weekend- a little R&R may be just what you both need!!
oh, and my DH made the change to boxers a couple of years ago and he whined about it for a while, but now he loves them and wouldn't go back!!

That could be highly effective in more than one way.
