On Monday I had my first prenatal visit with the midwife! The appt. went well. We saw the midwife we like better, I am hoping and praying she is the one who delivers our baby. She gave us the book they wrote for all their patients. I can't wait to read it all. She gave us a DVD to borrow about birth. Then we all talked about insurance and the pregnancy. We discussed our opinions/beliefs on topics such as testing, circumcision, vaccines, etc. She discussed foods and being healthy for quite a while too. Then she showed me how to test my urine. I get to do it every visit. So that's pretty cool. So did that and weighed myself. (I've gained 4 pounds so far) and then she felt my belly and said I was measuring where I should be.
Then she got out the doppler and started moving it around to listen. She couldn't find hear the baby's heartbeat, only mine. She said was what we have been hearing was my heartbeat (I bought a doppler off ebay) And that it may possibly be to early to hear the baby. (But I'm kinda thinking that it's not too early, since I'm almost 15 weeks, ya know? so that's what worries me...) and/or the baby's just hiding really good because my uterus may be tilted. I told her my GYN said it was tilted and she said that's probably the culprit and not to necessarily worry, but we have a few options since our next appointment is in 4 weeks, a.) we could go for an u/s right now b.) we could wait or c.) she could test my HCG levels to see if they are measuring up. (So we're pretty certain it's not twins since she couldn't even find one.)
Then was the blood work....she had the intern do my blood work. She did a good job. Thankfully they use the butterfly needles so it didn't hurt much! They took 3.5 vials! My midwife said she'd call if the results were of a concern otherwise not to worry. I'm going back on Wednesday afternoon for another blood draw to make sure everything is alright and to schedule our next appointment.
Some positive vibes/prayers/thoughts would be MORE than appreciate right now. I hope and pray our lil one is just hiding out and being shy like his/her momma. (I'm not cramping or bleeding or anything.....wait...I did have some weird strong twinges this morning and I spontaneously barfed....so I'm not tooo worried, trying to think positively that everything is/will be alright.)
Update on Wednesday's visit....
We went back to the midwives office for the blood draw to check my levels to make sure they went up from Monday's draw. Well the midwife wanted to check with the doppler to see if she could find the baby. (This was the other midwife in the group) and guess what????
We heard our baby's heartbeat!!! Our baby came out from hiding, we joked our baby likes this midwife better...She found our baby, like super fast too!!!! Thank you God!! Thank you baby for cooperating and not having mommy get a blood draw!! We are sooo thrilled and happy!!! (I knew everything was alright, since I wasn't bleeding or cramping, but hearing our lil baby's beating heart for the first time was so amazing!!!!) Daddy thinks the baby is going to be a drummer just like him, since their lil heart was very fast and arrhythmic like drums beating. (I didn't catch a number but I was just so thrilled to hear our lil one!)
Then come to find out the lab didn't pick up my blood on Monday, so if they wouldn't have found the heartbeat I would have had to go back for another draw. But since they didn't pick up my inital prenatal blood work panels, at my next visit they are going to do it then.
My next visit is on August 11.
And we have an u/s scheduled for this coming Saturday the 26th to hopefully find out the gender!!! (open leg vibes would be great, we're dying to find out who's a baking....a daughter or son!!) I'll update you all again after next Saturday's ultrasound and will share some pics of our lil one!!!
