People can be clods. I've heard more insulting things...
For example, I have a "surprise" baby that came along later in life. I had a lady who looked at least my age or older call out in a parking lot: "Are you his grandmother? You look tired!" !!!
If I am ever unsure as to the relationship a woman has to a baby she's holding (or if she's pregnant, heavy, or just wearing baggy clothing), I say nothing. That salesman should have kept it zipped, too.

I can't believe that woman said that to you! What did you say? Was she embarassed?
I know, I never think of good comebacks either. Even if I could have come up with one, I don't think I should have to share my struggles with fertility with a stranger just to get him to shut up.

I tried sharing with my MIL and it didn't make her be quiet!
I guess it's not his fault that I'm feeling this way about ttc and everything, but I would have thought he'd have learned his lesson with the first question. To make matters worse, I think he was the owner/manager. And, he was training a girl who seemed to get very embarassed and walked away when he kept asking me questions.
