I just found out today that our insurance does not cover fertility. It really pisses me off. We were told it did. So for those that have have no coverage for fertility, what did it cover for you? I know any procedures are out, but what about just testing?

We just got the new updated info packet on our insurance, and guess where the first place I looked was! LOL.... Ours covers all the diagnostic tests and procedures that are used to determine infertility/fertility. What's new to our policy this year is that they will cover everything up until IVF, which is awesome. I'll take it!

From what I understand, if your Dr is really particular about how things are "coded" on the medical records and bills, some insurances may cover certain things. Just let your Dr know what's going on and I'm sure they'll help you out as much as possible.

I'm sorry your insurance doesn't cover a lot, but hopefully you won't need a lot of that.

I talked to my doc about this a few weeks ago. She said that the majority of insurance companies/plans will pay for diagnostic stuff but not treatment.

This made me pull out our insurance coverage book and look - I am in your same boat Brandy - ZERO coverage.

NOT COVERED:
Health services and associated expenses for infertility treatments
Surrogate parenting
The reversal of voluntary sterilization. (don't have to worry about this).

I am hoping that any meds my doc might put me on would be covered under maternity care.

My policy said what Christina's does......however since I'm under the care of a midwife and apparently she codes things a certain way, they have covered my tests and my Femara prescription.

My insurance has a $3000 rider for infertility. I am currently seeing my OB, so my blood work and appt's are covered, but my Clomid is not.

Talk to your Dr. and make sure your diagnostic tests are coded as irregular menses or anovulation, or whatever applies to you! That should help with the coverage

It really sucks that it is not covered for so many people. I can understand not covering IVF or IUI, but not covering the rest is just wrong. If something is wrong in your body to not make it do what it is supposed to, they should cover getting it fixed.

We have a prescription plan and what I have read says that the plan covers Clomid and all the other fertility drugs, but now I am not sure. I will have to call and check on that since it is with the same company.

Thanks for all your info of this. I hope none of us have to go so far to use this things.

what the other ladies have said. Thankfully, I have great ins coverage (just not IVF, but everything else...) but SIL has no fertility coverage on hers. Her doctor coded her HSG and all her U/S (she had frequent US for follicle following) in a diagnostic way so that her insurance paid for all of it! They pay for her Metformin, just not her Clomid.

I would talk to your doctor and see if he can help!

Our insurance only covers diagnostics. So they will pay for my HSG, for example. They did NOT pay for the semen analysis, which I thought was crap because that IS diagnostic.

They won't pay for Clomid, IUI, IVF, etc.

What's up in the air are the ultrasound monitoring and follow up RE visits. I'm going to try and see if they will cover it but the nurse told me that once I started Clomid they HAVE to code it as infertility, so I don't think those will be covered anymore.

It's a shame. Apparently it would only add $3 per person PER YEAR, to add infertility coverage to insurance policies.

P.S. Clomid is only $9 at Walmart.
