I had an HSG after TTC unsuccessfully for a couple of years. I was given a painkiller to take before the procedure. I expected for there to be some pain, but my HSG did not hurt any more than a normal yearly checkup. I am sure that the painkiller numbed anything I may have felt. I did not have any detected blockages - so my test was considered "normal". I returned to work the same afternoon. I understand that if you do have blockages, that the procedure can be quite uncomfortable. And - I conceived my daughter the same month as my HSG! Good luck!

I didn't even know what they were doing, to tell you the truth. I was having a bunch of other problems and it was just one more test in a line of tests--not related to TTC. So I wouldn't worry about the pain or discomfort of it, really!

Good luck! I hope they find NOTHING to worry about whatsoever!!! Let us know!

Many years ago I had a HSG done and it hurt bad till I got up and walked around. A few months back I had a test something like a HSG done and it was less painful.

Here they don't do HSGs anymore they do the new test. In the new test they use special water and ultrasound.

There was a little craming with the new test but I took something before and after for the pain. Also the new test took alot less time to do and the doctor told me the results during the test.

I had one (almsot went for a second but conceived that month) anyway, it hurt when my cervix was dilated a bit for the tube to go through (my uterus is tilted and the dr was really rough) and that hurt but it passed and then I had some cramping for about 20 minutes but that's all. I know you've probably already had your test......but that's my story anyway

Had 1 done in December of 2004. I took no painkillers & only had a little bit of discomfort when they inserted the cathater. It was nice because just by chance my nurse had problems TTC too. She told me a little about what she had gone through to concieve. She now has 3 kids ages 18-25. She made me feel more relaxed than i probably would have because i knew she had been in the same situation. Luckily i had no blockage but unfortunately we are still TTC.

Good luck to you. Hope the tubes are open & working just fine.
